Cursed Child ~ dissapointing?

the first thing I want to say is hi! And I'm glad to be back ☆ wow the layout of the amino has changed a lot :o

~EMOTIONS!!~

Well, I have to say I'm feeling conflicted about 'The Cursed Child'.. And I'm pretty sure you guys feel pretty similar.

My initial reaction when I first started reading was: this is pretty great.. I was worried about what reading was going to be like in script form, but it turned out to be just about as engaging as the original novels.

I was riddikulusly happy when Scorpius was sorted into slytherin and then I was even more ecstatic when Albus was out in there with him! I almost overlooked how nervous Scorp had been on the Hogwarts express.

And then it turned into a bit of a dissapointment

It really didn't make sense at all - Turns out that what we [thought] we knew about the wizarding world was very wrong in some places..

Don't get me wrong, some of the moments and quotes were pretty ♡ and there were a lot of redeeming factors. But the plotline dissagrees with me.

~CHARACTERS~

okay, so I'm going to start with the characters.

{then plot followed by moments}

I understand that this is a play, and that there can't be a lot of characters included. There isn't a lot of detail because it's a script, but there is enough to draw some conclusions.

Harry Potter

He acutally fit the mould of what I expected. PTSD was there and he did what we would expect Potter to do :) so feeling good there.

"I've never fought alone, you see. And I never will"

Albus Potter

The Chosen One's son..

He decided to be friends with Scorpius, fufilling my fan fiction dreams [yay!]

But in of his attitude, not so great.

Ungratelful? I guess that's like most teenagers though.

:snake: perpetually moody ~ reasons remain somewhat unexplained

:snake: Has an argument with his father [one that we know of] [yes it was a big one, but reallly?] and so decides he doesn't want much to do with his father. At least he has one, unlike Harry growing up.

:snake: perhaps too reckless.. he has some 'anger issues' but then his qualities should have directed him to Gryffindor? (Sense of adventure).. Although, Hogwarts housing isn't always reliable :)

Scorpius Malfoy

I was kind of upset by him. This a personal thing, becuase in of development and personality: what more could you want?

I suppose that what I kind of wanted and expected was a mini Draco.

I guess Scorpius is what Draco would have been had he not been restricted by Lucius. so.. yep. I guess that now makes Lucius my favourite Malfoy.

Delphini?!

Okay. This one. Mouldy Voldy had a daughter? Firstly, it just seems wrong..

Bellatrix and The Dark Lord had something going on, but I'm finding it really hard to comprend. Words cannot describe..

The Dark Lord having a daughter is off, and seems forced into the story.

:skull: He couldn't have loved Bellatrix as he was conceived under the influence of a love potion - so that rules love out.

:skull: it happened a while before the battle of Hogwarts. At that point Voldemort would have had every confidence that he would come out of that victorious and immortal. So no reason to have a child to carry on his legacy or the Slytherin bloodline. He was too arrogant to believe he needed anyone else.

Hermione&Ron

I've got to say that Romine was pretty cute, even though i'm not usually a fan of them.

But then it got tedious.

After the initial 'love fest', their relationship was carried on in the parallel universes, with Granger and Weasley having feelings for eachother even when they weren't really together.

When they kissed before the dementors pulled them apart, it was sweet, but soo cliche that it ruined the effect.

and the absence of even mentions of these loved characters

Molly+Arthur

Luna

Although... perhaps it is better that nothing much was said about them, that way we can keep on believing what we want to ~ rather than having an inadequate confirmation

~PLOT~

Would you rather the good or the bad first?

I'll go with order of events then.

It opens at Kings cross station and platform 9 3/4, starting with lines from the epilouge to book7. It's lovely.

And then the sorting lives up to my expectations.

The first 3 years of school are then skipped through, in which Rose and Albus drift apart. James and Lily (jr) are barely even acknowledged. I want to know what they got up to too :/

And then the weirdness starts with Mr Diggory and Delphi, wanting to bring Cedric back after he's been dead for over 20 years [he was under a confundus curse but surely someone would have known he wasn't in his right mind].

Then Scoripus and Albus go on some hero's quest to save Cedric, messing things up and repeatedly going back and forth from present > past > present in to fix all the mistakes that have been made.

While Scorpius and Albus are re-enacting 'Back to the future', The Golden Trio and Draco are sorting their own problems in the ministry. I quite liked the rumours that Scoripus was Voldemort's son even though they were unreasonable. It fits in to what the wizarding community would believe, and they were simply rumours. I feel like maybe that's what should have been focused on in this sequel.

Relationships.

Becuase that could have been so much more than just subtext.

I guess that the main thing that gets me about this latest WW release is Voldemort having a daughter.. After 7 books of struggling against The Dark Lord, he is defeated. And then suddenly 'his daughter' turns up and they get rid of her as soon as she turns up seemingly without much trouble.

Couldn't a new problem have been found?

~MOMENTS~

there were a few moments that were absolutely lovely, and then ones that were cringe. here are a few:

:green_heart: The trolley witch. I always wondered who she was. Although it's not said - it's nice for her to be acknowledged.

:negative_squared_cross_mark: i was hoping that Dumbledore's portrait would be as wise as the man himself... And i think he was. But I think that he wast too much like himself because as Harry said, he stayed away for 20 years

:negative_squared_cross_mark: Albus kissed Hermione a lot! She's his much older aunt! Was that really necessary. He didn't even seem grossed out afterward...   

:negative_squared_cross_mark: Harry Hears Voldemort's voice. Voldemort didn't ever even come back. It was Delphi so it would have made more sense for him to have at least just heard her? (in parseltounge)

:green_heart: McGonagall giving Albus and Scorp a chance to move away from eachother.

And then... "Well, if I didn't see you, I didn't see you".

Go Professor!! Whoo

:eyes: Cedric Diggory as a Death Eater in a parallel universe? He really didn't seem like that kind of guy

:green_heart: Snape! I was great to see what may have happened to Snape had he had a longer life.

and there was still a resistance force in that parallel.

:negative_squared_cross_mark: A lot of people call Voldemort 'The Dark Lord' I noticed Hermione saying it a lot, and that was weird because as far as we were aware, the only people who would call him that were his followers. Why would you endorse him with such a title?

:green_heart: :two_hearts: Harry and Draco came to a truce and finally fight alongside eachother.

I have no doubt that The Cursed Child would be better seen on the stage as it was intended.

It's hard to visualise how all the components would work together onstage (like the polyjuice transformations). I think that will make it all the more magical when preformed ☆

When are the world tour destinations released??

So, those were my thoughts on The Cursed Child.
