Last Month’s Review on Fish Food Produced by Fluval

(This is the betta formula and varies from the tropical fish version, though both are just as healthy for your betta!)

Black Soldier Fly Larvae

Salmon

Fish Protein Concentrate

Wheat

Potato

I hear a lot of good things about this food so let's break it down! I'm definitely not a fan with the unspecific used.

Ingredient #1 - Black Soldier Fly Larvae

BSFL is one of the healthiest larvae we can give our bettas! Definitely like seeing this here, I wish more betta foods included it!

Ingredient #2 - Salmon

Salmon is a quality ingredient, but there’s a problem! This ingredient is not specific to what "salmon" is... Whole salmon? Salmon skin? A look-alike fish to salmon? No one really knows except the manufacturer.

Ingredient #3 - Fish Protein Concentrate

This is a quality ingredient! It is concentrated fish meal, it’s healthier then your average fish meal. It's a byproduct of the meat trade, anything humans don’t consume is ground down into the food. Only the highest quality of fish meal can be made into fish protein concentrate.

Ingredient #4 - Wheat

This is a filler used to make the batter a proper consistency while the food is being made.

Ingredient #5 - Potato

Again, same as above, filler, and no nutritional value.

Conclusion

Honestly, after hearing so much about this food I was pretty disappointed with the results. Here’s to hoping the betta version is better!

Ingredient #1 - Fish Meal

Fish meal is the byproduct of the fish meat trade. Everything that humans won’t consume is ground down into fish meal.

Ingredient #2 - Dried Yeast

The is just a filler used to help get the batter consistency.

Ingredient #3 - Ground Brown Rice

This is another filler... At least it’s specific to what kind of filler.

Ingredient #4 - Shrimp Meal

Again, another by product of the meat trade! Anything humans won’t consume is ground down, except it being shrimp this time!

Ingredient #5 - Wheat Gluten

Another filler, and no nutritional value.

Conclusion

There is much better food out there that is the same price as this stuff! I would not recommend this food.

6/6 bettas approve of BettaMin flakes! ... Apparently my fish approve of anything that’s food related.

Last Month’s Interview Was With: Makoy

- How did you get into betta keeping? How long have you been keeping bettas?

My dad got me into fish keeping because when I was growing up, he kept 8 fish tanks around our house. So eventually, I ended up picking up the hobby with my dad.

- What bettas do you have now? Could we get some pictures of them?

Currently I have a dumbo betta named Makoy who I got back in March of 2020. His name originated from one of my favorite comedians called Jokoy, I add my twisted and put the first two letter of my name and got Makoy.

I also have a green alien named Manok (means Chicken in Tagalog). You can guess why his name is chicken- he's very timid and easily gets freaked out. I got him a couple months ago so he's still relatively new.

- If you have multiple tanks, which tank scape is your favorite? Can we see pictures of that tank?

I currently own two tanks. I personally like my community tank more because it's bigger so I can add more plants and branches. I must warn though - I'm not the best at tank scaping :sweat_smile:

- Do you have any pets other than betta fish?

Other than my pet bettas - I only have pet nanofish due to my sister's allergies of cats, dogs, horses, etc. I treasure my panda guppy pair, my father gave them to me because they were being bullies in his tank. The female guppy is about to give birth really soon which is super exciting and scary because I'm worried the parents will start eating the babies. :sweat_smile: :sweat_smile: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: . A few espei rasboras that feed like piranhas. Two sparkling gouramis, although they don't match up to my bettas in color, they match up in personality and the gouramis have this beautiful shimmer about them. Then we got big Ol' Amano, the XL Amano shrimp the keeps my community tank all squeaky clean.

- Any other thoughts you would like to share？

I was planning on trying to pair Makoy with a lady, but I don't think the old man can handle that anymore. :sweat_smile:

This Month We Are Interviewing: FluffyTheArtist

- How did you get into betta keeping? How long have you been keeping bettas?

I got into betta keeping around the beginning of 2019. I was out on my own and really wanted to (ironically) get a cat. So I started by proving to my mom that could care for a betta. I started doing research and found out how mislead I’d been my whole life about fish, and became a bit biased in my love for bettas. I’ve been keeping betta fish for about 3 years now. I had a lot of learning to do, and I’m even now, still learning!

- What bettas do you have now? Could we get some pictures of them?

I currently have three beautiful bettas.

My oldest fella is Tequila, a platinum halfmoon. He’s very chill.

This is my new guy, Tempo. He’s a blue alien, and he’s got attitude!

Finally, this is my very first female betta, Medley! She’s a super red plakat. She’s very curious!

- If you have multiple tanks, which tank scape is your favorite? Can we see pictures of that tank?

Picking between Dragon Garden and Celestial Forest is pretty hard! I guess for now I’ll say Celestial Forest (my 15g) because of how much time I’ve spent on it. Plus it’s very lively. I have several types of plants along with a school of corydoras and a bunch of shrimp. I’m always tinkering with this tank to make it better.

- Do you have any pets other than betta fish?

Yes, as a matter of fact! I did eventually convince my parents I was responsible enough to get a cat. I have a handsome classic tabby named Maestro!

- Any other thoughts you would like to share？

I gotta be honest, I really love this community. Everybody has been so welcoming and encouraging and it’s not something I see very much in communities like this. I’m so glad to chat with people here and learn new things about betta keeping! I’m also happy if any of my tanks serves as any inspiration to anyone! *If anyone wants to chat about bettas ever (cuz seriously I could go on for hours), hit me up!* I wanna thank the lovely moderation team for this opportunity to share my experience!
