Japanese people used the english term gender to signify the difference between male and female and such as sei was used to identify binary people from male and female.

Sexual orientation in japan is pretty much a secret compared to the united states or other big countries. You will rarely see on social medias of japanese people "comming out" and maybe you will see occasional pride parades but most people in japan keep themself to themself or in their small group of friends. They Just liked to keep their own biusness private.

Tokyo rainbow pride has been happening ever since 2012 and in 2015 they anounced a poll and over half of japanese citizens are in surport of the movement of same sex marriages.

Following the years, the tokyo pride parade has increased and is having high level surport for the lgbt community and the communities inside it.

In 2018, a law was ed to protect all violence and descrimination against lgbt citizens but sadly that didnt stay for long as of now in 2020 lgbt citizens are not under the civil rights law wich means there are few legal resouces to use when faced with violence or descrimination.

In febuary 2012 a transgender woman had been reported to be in a male prison but later on got transfered to a female prison because her "real gender" was a female. The woman says that even After going through a sex change they still transfered her to the wrong prison.

Personally, i hope it changes soon for me and other lgbt citizens. All we have to do is work together to let this happen. :)
