You’re like an urchin, sharp and enigmatic,
Though you seem hard to approach from the outside.
But you’re stung from the inside,
Hiding beneath a rock, burying your fears deep.
Longing for superiority over others,
Shielded by your pride.
Wearing a mask for safety,
But why hide your true self?
Your demise is coming soon enough,
Concealed in a dollhouse of fears.
Resentful of others’ happiness and smiles,
Gazing at your reflection through a lens of pain.
Wondering why you never feel enough,
Why does this prickly side emerge?
As people draw near, touching your thorns,
Bleeding, crying, shocked by how explosive.
You glance at your hands, eyes filled with fear,
“Why am I like this?” echoes in your mind.
Tears well up,
Your throat tightens, and you start to overflow.
Breaking down, breath heavy, footsteps approach,
A sigh, then a smile, “Are you alright?”
My vision may be blurry, but I know I’m safe,
There’s always that one person who loves you, urchin ways and all.
