I’m not perfect, and I know I never will be,
With tangled hair and skin roughened by eczema.
I gaze into the mirror,
My fingerprints and kiss stains smudging the glass.
The mirror hangs by a thread on my wall,
And I don’t mind, for each glance reveals a crack.
I can’t bear to see my own reflection,
“Why can’t I be perfect?” my mind whispers.
You scroll through magazines and screens,
Where girls flaunt their slender frames and flawless skin.
Everyone adores them,
Calling them beautiful, calling them perfect.
I longed to be like them,
With smooth skin and a tiny waist.
But in truth, those girls starve on oranges,
Juicing their pain and pushing their limits.
They wear smiles and laughter,
Yet they’re slowly fading away.
I look at my own reflection, spotting flaws,
Combing my hair, dres, snapping photos.
My hair is thin, my cheeks round, my skin flushed,
I suppose I look okay for a girl of my size, overweight.
Tears stream down my face,
“I just want to be perfect and beautiful.”
