We only celebrate someone's life

When it ends

How we say

Don't be sad that it's over

Be happy that it happened

I was at a funeral today

And I realized that

Moments are all we have

But only when those moments turn into memories

We say

we're glad that it happened

And those memories will live on in our hearts

I realized in that moment

That I never thought to say

I'm glad we happened to be living

At the same time

Now that she's gone, I want her back

death will never make sense... when she died, all I could ask was why?but there will never be an answer. There will never be a moment where I understand "why here? Why now?" It'll never make sense.

I realized in that silence of prayer

That I was too late

I took her life for granted

And my life

When her life was happening

Yes, I loved her

And laughed with her

And went on great adventures with her

But there were also moments of poison

And neglect

Moments of letting the call go to voicemail because I was busy watching my favorite show

Instead of talking to her

Instead of communicating, listening, learning

I didn't do everything I could

And that kills me

Because now that she's gone

I want her back

Not when she moved to a different house and had to transfer schools

Not when she was sick with pneumonia and was bed bound for a week

Only now that she's gone.

But I was young

And I thought we'd live forever
