The taste of freedom you had was fun,

but everything blends the same.

The privilege of growing up in a small town

I always planned on escaping has

turned beautiful in certain ways.

I’m haunted, forgetting good memories,

but surrounded by people who love me,

and everything still ties me together;

Even the one I lost bounds me here.

My friends come and go, following their

dreams, visiting town, feeling alone,

But at least I’m tied together with you.

Us? We hated this place most our lives,

Like most people do,

but growing up shows us the quiet

beauty of this old place,

and you make it better.
