Desire

I often drift into a trance,

lost in the tide of my own thoughts,

time slipping through my fingers

like water I can’t hold.

I’ve always built homes in daydreams,

fragile castles of what-ifs,

never sturdy enough for reality.

What if none of this had happened?

What if my childhood bloomed with sunlight,

its corners soft with laughter?

What if my mind were gentler,

my edges less jagged?

Would I be different?

Would my life unravel and re-stitch itself

running from red flags

instead of rushing into their arms?

Who knows.

But this I do know:

this life is mine to shape.

I am not bound by my past,

nor an unwilling enger.

One day,

I will arrive where I am meant to be

whole,

unafraid,

and free.
