Life. It is easy when life is carefree to take it for granted. More than that, it's so very easy to fall into the trap of thinking there is a way that things are supposed to be. But life is special because there is so very much going on.
In times of joy, we can take everything for granted. The things that protect us, encourage us and drive us. To think those things will be there forever or to think they will not change is... Not even a thought we usually have. We don't even consider what we would do without them. That's especially why death hits us so hard when it is the people closest to us. We weren't ready.
Which isn't to say we have made any mistakes. You don't have to make a single mistake for your life to fall apart. That's a part of life. Through no fault of your own, you can lose the things you hold most dear. Yet we blame ourselves, even when there is nothing we could have done. Or we even make up things we couldn't have known at the time.
The acceptance of life at face value... Knowing that we stand on ground that is constantly moving, cracking, shattering is a part of growing up. No, that is to say, learning to move with the shifts and reach down into the cracks for the minerals it exposes is how adults cope. And sometimes? The earth shifts in just the wrong way and takes our hands. And that's just life, too.
This isn't meant to be depressing. It's not a call to stop holding on to everything. It's meant to make you think and realize what you do have, because it could be gone in mere seconds. So don't blame yourself when things go horribly awry unless you are directly to blame. Not if you started events in motion. Not if you were simply there when it happened. Not even if the problem started elsewhere and you couldn't stop it.
Just understand that we are finite beings living in a finite world. That's all.
