Resolution. A lot of times, we seek change. Often in our situations, and in other people, but less commonly in ourselves. Or, we wait until it is convenient or important to actually change. But I want to challenge you. If you truly want to change, why would you ever wait?

Sometimes, it is very hard to deconstruct the things that constitute who we are. Changing ourselves isn't simply removing a behavior. It's polishing who we are to remove blemishes. Perfecting ourselves.

This is a tangent, but... Perfection. Perfect is a term that comes from the Latin "Per," meaning "through," and "Facere," meaning "to do or make." When the come together, it means to "do something all the way through."To make it come to a point where it cannot be improved upon. There is nothing more to be done. It is finished.

Perfecting ourselves is a task that takes a lifetime. Often longer. So many never realize their full potential, or feel there was more they could have done to make themselves better. But my meaning isn't macabre. If it's such a large task, why wait?

New Years Resolutions are something a lot of us do. A change for a new year. But how important is a new year? A solar cycle, in this vehicle we call earth, around a track of emptiness bathed in the light of the sun? Keeping time, the creation of the calender, was a man made creation. It's simply a way for us to keep track of time, to reference it in the future, the past, or even now, precisely.

So why, then, do we reserve these changes for this one time of year? We abandon them so easily, as well. Which I simply can't understand. Many of us can ride bikes. But we didn't do it the first time without issue. Many of us struggled, even bled, as we did everything we could to push through, and learn. And we haven't forgotten how to do it.

That's the goal, you see. The ideal. We struggle and scrape and cry, and one day, we will look back at that moment of change and it will seem so foreign. So far away. And we will have remained as we are. Not forgotten. But not taken for granted, either.

So I challenge you. Be the best you can be. Change whenever you see fit. Not reserving it for an arbitrary day once every 365 days. Our lives happen every day. Across so many years. So there is no time to wait.

Because the reality is... We only have so long to become perfect. And even if we never get there, isn't it worth trying for? So don't waste your time. Don't give up on your resolution. Breaking a streak isn't any reason to give up and try again next year. Get back in your bike. Try it again. Even if you bleed. Even if you cry. And one day, your form will be perfect. And then you can pedal on, to a brighter tomorrow. Regardless of day or year.

Have a great night, everyone.
