the human urge to cover up mistakes. everyone makes them but people refuse to it it. they think it’ll make them weak, or appear incapable. i’ve decided to make a post addressing that fact.
let’s face it - equestrianism isn’t sunshine and rainbows. it’s tears, grit, pain, determination and sometimes a little blood. EVERYONE has bad rides, no matter how “perfect” they seem. on social media, people present the best version of themselves. i it, i do it too. i want people to think i’m a great rider who never messes up; however, i know i make so many mistakes.
everyone does. riding is a constant learning experience. you never stop. mistakes are essential for improvement. in my opinion, covering them up is a recipe for disappointment. not acknowledging human nature is bound to hurt one in the long run.

i’ve made countless mistakes, more than i can count. ten before a jump. using too much rein. kicking too hard. getting frustrated. relaxing too much.
all together, these mistakes cause an impending sense of doom, or anxiety. the want to impress, to be perfect. it can make people want to quit.
then comes the guilt from wanting to quit. it’s a horrid feeling to know you’re disappointing others by quitting. most often you’re more afraid you’re going to screw up, and that’s why you quit.
if you go back, the cycle repeats. it’s daunting. scary even.

if us people were to focus on what is actually important, riding wouldn’t be a chore. the whole point of it is to be fun. we love the animals, so it’s about time we acknowledged WHY we ride, and who we do it for. i personally do it for myself and the horses. not to impress anyone but myself and the horses. that is my motive.
take a minute to question what yours is. everyone’s is a bit different. is it worth it to you? who do you do it for? why do you do it? what’s your favorite aspect?

humanity tends to focus on the negative. i think we should change that. the equestrian community is so toxic and negative, but it shouldn’t be. all of us are bound together by our love of horses.
to all of you reading this, embrace your bad moments. they help you grow into a better person and equestrian. keep trying. i know it’s hard. i’ve wanted to give up too. it’s worth it, and i’m so proud of where you are now. you should be too. keep going!

I love this, thank you for making this post! I used to be so in my head while I rode and struggled so bad with constant negative thoughts whenever I made a mistake. Although I still have negative thoughts, I’ve learned to laugh at my mistakes. I used to take myself so seriously and never let myself make any mistakes, but I think it’s important to just laugh off your mistakes. Because in the long run, it’s your mistakes that you learn the most from. Even though you should definitely strive to fix your mistakes, it’s okay to make mistakes! Which is something I think a lot of us equestrians struggle with, because a lot of us strive for perfection, including myself. Fantastic post, I love and agree with everything you mentioned :)
Simply this! Preach!
Preach!! Everyone makes mistakes and has bad rides. It's definitely not always easy and can be really hard. Equestrians are super hard on themselves and we should try and focus on the positives more. I love this post :+1: :revolving_hearts:
Thank you so much! Exactly, we really are. We’ve gotta learn to just have fun. :)
