Prompt- sleep

I get drunk on the midnight black thoughts shrouding my mind like a toxic veil of pernicious silk,

as I paint the shadows of dreams on my moist eyelids, hoping for the illusions of peace to bring the bliss of ephemeral treacherous sleep,

that evades my fingertips like your nostalgic butterfly kisses of chapped lips on my brittle blue veined skin of scribbling down incoherent lines of lost poetry between lines that went astray in ill disguised fatigue.

The nightmares of reality bleed into my stark bloodshot eyes as everything blurs into a concoction of despair and unexplained anxiety, biting my nails to bloody stubs,

in the agonizing anticipation of an apocalypse that never comes actually.

I bleed sunshine on the sheets,

wrapping the rags dipped toxic words,

collected in putrid jars and fermented with time,

reeking of disdain over my already infected wounds.

I wait for exhaustion to claim my tired soul,

the wait for a savior never ends,

wish I could save myself from my own maze of endless dark alleys and corners full of flaming memories.

I deliberately pick at my own scabs,

yet complain when they don't heal,

hypocrisy festers in my lead filled blood as,

I hope to close my eyes and drift away in peace,

when I myself let loose the chaos within me.

Yet I wish for an infinity of calm,

My insomniac night is full of dreams of falling asleep,

before I fall apart.
