Hey all! Cid here and today we will be discussing oriented aroaces. It’s a topic I just barely learned about, and I thought it would be cool to share.
I really hope you enjoy learning more about it. So, let’s get started!

The term “aroace” is short for aromantic asexual. Asexual is a sexual orientation, while aromantic is a romantic orientation.
Someone who is asexual is an individual who does not experience sexual attraction. Likewise, an individual who is aromantic does not experience romantic attraction.
Some people can be asexual and not aromantic, while some people can be aromantic and not asexual. These labels don’t always go together... But for some people they do.
For example, someone can be bisexual and aromantic, while someone else can be panromantic and asexual.

Before we dive into oriented aroaces, it’s important to establish the different types of attraction that exist. These types include:
sexual attraction
The attraction to someone sexually — finding someone sexually appealing.
romantic attraction
The attraction to someone romantically — the desire to do romantic things/share romantic things with someone else.
aesthetic attraction
The attraction to someone’s appearance or aesthetic. (I.e. finding someone aesthetically pleasing)
sensusal attraction
The desire to touch or feel someone but in a non-sexual way (cuddling, holding hands, etc.)

Someone who is aroace might add an oriented label to their identity because they experience a strong enough attraction that isn’t sexual or romantic in nature.
For example, an aroace individual might also identify as pan because they experience aesthetic attraction to all genders. While another aroace might identify as gay/lesbian as well because they experience sensual attraction to people of the same gender or sex.
There are many different types of attraction, and especially for aro or ace spec folks, it can be a very important part of identity.
In my personal experience, I rarely ever experience sexual attraction. However, I find myself aesthetically and romantically attracted to many people around me. While I’m not aromantic myself, I can see why someone who is aroace might want to add an oriented label to their ace and aro identifiers in order to express themselves more clearly.

No matter how you feel about the topic, I think it’s important to be open-minded and learn something new every now and then. As I learn more about the asexual and aromantic communities, I hope to be able to help spread awareness and help more people come to with and understand the community.
I hope you found this post interesting and hopefully you learned something new! I’ll see you all in the next post.

This is some great explaining!
I guess I’m aroace then, I was wondering for a while because I want to cuddle and have a nice “relationship” with someone but being a gf wasn’t appealing either. Thanks for the post :)
