Welp! The views, opinions of two different people aren't alike, so I would put my opinions on the table, make the Leader understand my points and let them decide on whatever they think is best for the Team.

I have already been a member of welcoming team in the past. Welcoming is "home", the very first team I ed few years back.

The feeling of being welcomed right after you the community is just wholesome! And I would love to be a part of somebody's journey here in this community by welcoming them.
