I've been calling drawing my
hobby since Dec 2016. despite
my low experience, I decided to
try a detailed portrait drawing.
Watching Stranger Things got
me into drawing Finn.

:: THE •• PROCESS ::
~
◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠
I started with putting a grid on
the reference picture via Picsart
and then I carefully drew a grid
on the paper. I do that to get
somewhat the right proportions.

:: STEP •• TWO ::
~
◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠
I started with drawing the mouth
and the eyes first. There'd no
particular reason for that. It's
just the best part of a portrait,
so I wanted to draw that first.

:: STEP •• THREE ::
~
◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠
The next thing was skin texture.
I started with drawing some
basic shadows by softly drawing
the shadows with my pencil,
which I later blended with...
Toilet paper.
The freckles are made by
drawing simple spots and
blending them a LITTLE.

:: STEP •• FOUR ::
~
◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠
There isn’t much detail in the
hair, because on the reference
picture there wasn’t either. It’s
just very black. So, to reach the
same ‘blackness’ I used charcoal
only. I filled in the hair with charcoal
(sticks and pencil) and blended it.

:: STEP •• FIVE ::
~
◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠•◠
I kept the background very simple
so the attention wouldn’t go to
the background, but the portrait.
To draw the clothes I used both
graphite pencils and charcoal to
reach blackness and more detail
in the jacket. I blended the charcoal,
And voilá. Finn’s FINNished.

That's awesome and u're very good :+1: 🏿
thank u!
What size is your paper? Also what is your grid by (like how many squares per cm)? Sorry I just always struggle with getting the grid right. Either way this drawing is AMAZING
The paper is just A4 size (what was it? 21x29,7cm) i cant the size of the squares of tge grid, but this is how i work with a grid: 1. I put a grid over the reference picture. 2. I divide the length of the paper by the amount of squares on the length of the reference picture, and the answer will be the side of one square in cm ... i hope understand me 🤣
