For the background blow-up,
I tried using a character that
was present during an important
moment. The character used
is from Chapter 69. I wrote
a bit of how they were involved
with the event, plus some extra
information that gives a glimpse
into their normal life. In addition,
I commissioned laurus to
draw them. I didn't tell them, but
I plan on giving them half of any
reward I get, if I get a reward.
Also, there are spoilers for
season 2 ahead.

"So, I'm not the first person who called you about this? Who could've..."
Even though the brunette was nowhere near me, her voice cut through the clamor of the crowd that surrounded me, as if she were standing right next to me. My eyes shifted from the form they were following, peering around for who could have spoken. Most of the time, I'd ignore the random statements that activate my quirk, but after everything I just witnessed, I was a bit on edge. My eyes caught on a face I recognized; one of the girls from class 1-A of U.A. She was standing beside the green-haired student, on her phone. I saw her lips moving as she continued to talk, but I couldn't hear anything. She must be talking to the cops.
My gaze returned to the person I had previously been watching, except they were nowhere to be seen. I stood on my toes, searching desperately for the tangled, periwinkle hair of the man who had previously threatened one of the students. Did my lapse of attention give him the opportunity to escape unseen? I cursed myself for being so stupid. "So, is it on sale or not?" another voice sounded right beside me, even though the speaker was in a store across the hall. Why had I let the sentence distract me?
Sorry, introductions. My name is Soh Harada, a regular 16-year-old student. In the story you're familiar with, I play a role so small that it's not even worth mentioning. I'm the one who called the cops when Shigaraki threatened Midoriya at the mall. That's right, it wasn't actually Uraraka, but I don't get upset that she gets all the credit. I'd much rather go unnamed, because who knows how insane Shigaraki could be. What if he targeted me just because of that? Unlike Midoriya, I have no way to defend myself. My quirk is useless in a battle.
My quirk allows me to hear sentences beginning with my name. Basically, if somebody is within a certain range, and starts a sentence with my name, I hear them loud and clear, even if they're whispering or other voices drown them out. Thing is, quirks aren't an exact science. With my name being Soh, I hear sentences that begin with the word "So." It's great for gathering gossip, but most of the time it's just very annoying. I'm just a regular teenage kid, nothing special in my life. Never would I have imagined I would witness a crime. It started with one sentence.
"So don't you try anything funny."
If you think about it, it's not a really threatening sentence. A mother might say it to her child, warning them from trying to grab candy off the shelf when her back is turned. But this voice was different. It sent shivers down my spine. I know it probably wasn't good to judge people's intentions off their voice; it's not something one can control. And yet, I found myself whipping my head around, searching for its source. It was hard to tell since I couldn't hear him anymore.
"So why do they smile and mingle like this?"
It sounded like he was standing to my right. I turned and started working against the crowd, listening intensely for the same raspy voice. I paused when I heard it faintly over the sound of the crowd. If I hadn't been listening for it, it would have blended into the background. I stood on my toes and looked around, spotting them. Two people sitting on the lip of a fountain. One had light blue hair, and the other...was somebody I recognized from TV. Midoriya, I wound later .
At first, I thought I was mistaken. His voice was creepy, but that wasn't his fault. After all, he had an arm draped around Midoriya like he was a good friend. I was about to turn away when I noticed his hand was actually clasped around Midoriya's throat. That was definitely not something good friends do. I quickly kept moving with the crowd, making sure I wasn't noticed. What was going on?
"So what makes us different?"
I didn't mean to get closer to them. I tend to be drawn towards chaos and drama, and I was so curious about what was happening. I had managed to convince myself that the risk was minimal, that I would just be another face in the crowd. In the end, I was right. They didn't even glance at me as I sat down nearby. Still, looking back on it, it was a really risky move. I didn't know the culprit's quirk. I kicked my feet and smiled at strangers walking past as I listened to their conversation. It was in hushed whispers, so even though I was right beside them, I had trouble understanding some sentences.
"So at the very least...he's destructive, but he's doing it for a purpose."
This time, it was Midoriya speaking. His voice trembled, and yet his expression didn't show any fear. He kept his hands balled into fists on his knees, staring straight forward. I rose to my feet, melding into the crowd again as I put some distance between myself and the pair. I'm not quite sure what had spurred my common senses to kick in. Once I was standing in a jewelry store, I slipped out my phone and dialed 1-1-0. I explained to the dispatcher what was happening, only pausing when Midoriya's panicked voice sounded nearby again.
"So...stay back."

"Soh, what's going on?" a familiar voice asked. I looked over to find a girl with curly, bright pink hair, a tired brunette latched to her arm. "Why are the police here?" Midori and Hinoka.
"Dude, Soh totally caught a criminal in the act of threatening one of the kids from U.A," a blonde smiled beside me. Aoi. These three were my only real friends. I had other people I spoke to, but these were the only people I spent my free time with.
"Woah. Really?" Hinoka asked, hardly even blinking. "You're basically a hero."
I could never tell when Hinoka was joking, but apparently, she was. Midori giggled and didn't get a glare from the brunette. "Don't you wanna stick around, see how things go?" Midori asked, cupping her hand around her mouth and speaking in a hushed tone.
"No!" I exclaimed but hesitated. Of course, I wanted to know how things would go down! But I also know getting involved with villains was not something I wanted to do. I know when I'm about to bite off more than I can chew. "Midori, he had his hand around Izuku Midoriya's throat. That's scary as hell."
"If anything tried to choke you, I'd save you!" Aoi exclaimed clenched his fists. "Then I'd be the hero!"
"You'd just set the building on fire," Hinoka rolled. "Midori would be the only one who would actually be able to help Soh."
As they argued over whose quirk was more useful, I was frozen to the spot. I gazed down a hallway leading to a janitorial closet, watching a slim silhouette slip into the doors. It couldn't be the same guy, right? "Let's go get ice cream," I interrupted their argument, grabbing Aoi's arm and dragging him outside to the plaza.
"Man, you're really freaked out by this," Midori said, her eyebrows drawing together in sympathy as if she just noticed he was being serious. They quickly split to allow more officers into the building and started toward the parking lot. A lot of people were huddled in groups around the parking lot, having been shooed from the plaza. Most people were on their phones, others were staring at the building as if they expected it to explode. And frankly, with the thought that the villain was still in the building, I feared the same thing.
"Hinoka, where'd you park?" I asked, looking around. She unhooked her arm from Midori's, leading the way to her van.
"Dude, we could totally exaggerate this," Aoi realized, excited. "What if we say the guy noticed Soh and attacked them, and I saved them! I had to stop Soh from bleeding out, so I couldn't chase after the heinous villain."
Despite how scared I was, a twinge of a smile played at the corner of my lips. I had made the call anonymously. There was no way the villain would target me, right?
Right?
Right.
