◇──Spacial Awareness──◇
◇
Knowing how other peoples actions affect your characters in your writings is important, but scenery can have a similar effect!
◇
Usually in writing scenery can help portray to the reader a mood or emotion that we as writers need to convey without obviously stating it. Such as we get a feeling of dread, or worry for the characters when the sky is dark as they go into a scenario. Either with some cloud coverage or a storm approaching, helping to add that element we need as our character could possibly go into a dangerous situation.
The same can go, as our characters are approaching a difficult situation, us as writers making it so that the sun appears or the setting around character lightens can add that hope the readers need to feel.
Not only can the setting affect our readers, it can affect our characters themselves.
◇
Often when writing our settings can mirror where the story is going. For after a character experiences loss having rain or the setting around them darker can drive them farther into that sadness. Causing them to take action they normally wouldn’t.
The same can go if the characters enter a dark unseen area, they might hesitate to continue. Maybe even flinching or feeling a sense of dread the farther that go. Leading to other emotions building in them.

◇────Challenge────◇
For this challenge I want you as a writer to focus more on the setting around your character and how that can affect what the character feels. Describe the setting and how, maybe the setting changes as the story goes along, helping to forward what emotion you want to convey.
Due Sunday, April 19th, 11:59 PM EST

In case you didn’t know, the official term for that is pathetic fallacy

Yup. I had to write an analysis essay on pathetic fallacy in section 2 of Les Mis just a couple weeks ago so it’s fresh in my memory.

Ah, is that Les Misérables by Victor Hugo? I’ve been meaning to get around to reading it....
