Introduction

My nickname can be Jules or whatever my name currently is (Not my actual name it’s just a nickname my friends call me sometimes) I have been riding both English and Western since 2013. I took riding lessons for about seven years and now I have an occasional riding lesson and training session with my neighbor. I also used to partial lease a gorgeous Welsh pony mix gelding as well as a little POA mare! I will do blogs about the horses I have ridden and more! I used to work at an English dressage barn every week but due to COVID-19 I was laid off. Now I work at my neighbor’s farm and she is a horse trainer and owns a boarding facility. I got my own horse on October 28th, 2020 so I am able to ride him whenever it’s nice out but since he’s green broke he needs to be worked with at least four times a week. I now have an equestrian Instagram called @sunset_equines and I post quite often on there!

My Experience

I went to a horse vet clinic in February of 2020, I volunteered at a horse summer camp in 2017 and 2018, I’ve done four shows (western and English) with a combing total of 14 classes, I started out riding at my old neighbor’s house in 2013 for 6yrs, riding mostly English until she moved away in 2019. Around 2015 I started riding, and volunteering at a western barn until 2019, I also leased a horse there in 2017. In autumn of 2016 I took barrel lessons from a champion barrel racer that went to my church. I took lessons from her for a couple months. Then in January or February of 2019 I started taking jumping and dressage lessons at an English barn and in September of 2019 I started working there. In late summer of 2019 I started going over to my new next door neighbor’s barn and riding her horses. In May of 2020 I started leasing her western pony, Romeo, until October of 2020. On May 6th, my bff and I started training a different neighbor’s new rescue horse. I was on an FFA horse judging team in 2019 - early 2020 with my 3 bffs and one other girl. Our team got to state and that would’ve been in April 2020 but due to COVID, state convention was canceled. I did a barrel racing clinic at the old western barn that I used to ride at. In May 2021 I started working at my neighbor’s boarding facility. My goal is to get a degree in Equine Science and/or management and have a rescue for horses and other animals or maybe a boarding facility idek. Eventually, I hope to go to a horse training academy that my neighbor recommended. In September of 2020 I did a two day trick riding clinic where I learned some trick riding, Roman riding, vaulting, and liberty. On October 28th, 2020 I bought my first horse, a 2014 Anglo Arabian gelding named Tango. I have learned a ton by working with him along side two different trainers. In May 2021 I also adopted a very skittish but sweet Mini Mule named Peanut.

Family and Friends

It’s kind of funny because there are only two people in my family that love riding horses. My little brother and my second cousin who was a state champion barrel racer but now does roping. My three best friends all ride horses too. Let’s call them Bri, Ellie, and Cara.

Bri is my closest friend and her and I were training a rescue mare named Willow in 2020 and it went great! Bri worked with me at the dressage barn (when I was working there anyway, Bri still works there tho), and has been riding as long as me. We took lessons together for around four years and we both hope to go to college together and maybe even start a horse business together. Bri is hoping to go to college to become a horse trainer and she bought her first project in 2020, a 4 year old grade QH mare named Creed that she trained and sold. Bri also teaches riding lessons to beginners!

Ellie has been riding for nine years (so about a year longer than me). She took group lessons with me and Bri for around a year or two until she got her own two horses, Tonto and Indie (Rip). I would ride Tonto and I used to ride Indie sometimes :) Tonto is an estimated 18 year old (2003) American Paint gelding and Indie was a 19 or 20 year (2000 or 2001) old Palomino Quarter Horse Mare. Indie sadly ed away on 5/5/20 due to kidney failure. Ellie is the president of her FFA chapter and is going to go to college for agriculture. I’m 2021 Ellie bought a sweet Paint gelding named Fin.

Cara took lessons with Bri and I in 2015 but only did it for a year. Cara started riding about the same year as Bri and I. She still rides, just not very often. She has a donkey named JJ. Cara kinda has a horse, she has a friend who lets her ride their horse anytime she wants and she is allowed to do whatever she wants with her. I have other friends with horses and experience but I only talked about my closest friends :)

My nextdoor neighbor moved in summer of 2019. I go over to her place a couple times a week to help her clean paddocks and other chores. She is working on her own little business of training, boarding, and giving lessons. She currently has ten horses on her property, four of which are her own, two are training horses, and four are boarding there. In May of 2020 I started to partial lease her pony, Romeo. I was teaching him the barrel pattern, the figure eight and jump pattern, and just some games and trail riding. Sadly he was sold in October 2020 but I didn’t buy him because he wouldn’t be very good for the things I want to be able to do and he was above my price range.
