——
As far as I can see, there’s no cars ahead of me.
There’s no yelling, no work, no worries here,
In the razor road.
Kids sprint, waving to me, as I make my way down razor road.
They’ve seen me ride up here before, racing past with red and black emblems shining.
We don’t know each other, but they know I ride up the razor road.
Where blossoms graze, and butterflies nourish in the trees.
It’s when I leave everything else behind me, for the razor road.
My phone rattles in the holder on my handlebars, I don’t check it.
I don’t want to see the empty screen left for me.
Looking both ways, the white stripes lead me up, continuing on my way through razor road.
The cars line the sides, and I dodge, they’re obstacles of spoilers containing red, white, and blue.
The cracked sidewalks stay in place, holding back the memories of all of what used to be, in the razor road.
Now they’re just covered in the dandelion seeds and the leaves left from the trees.
I’ve reached the end, the park stands high in its own maturity.
The field contains the baseball players being cheered on, cleats matted with grass, yells of going home.
I miss what used to be of the park.
When the memorial meant a place of new growth, to commemorate that of what was lost.
Now it’s filled with the burnt out angst of teenagers on the dugouts, and the carelessly jotted down phone numbers.
But all is said and done, because my ride has ended.
And now I go back down razor road once again.
