I stare into the mirror
A blank face stares back
“What don’t you like about your body?”
they whisper
I point to my chest
and my hips
and my legs,
who have carried me many miles but betrayed me anyways when they developed their curves
“Your body is perfect”
they answer
“Any girl would’ve been lucky with how you look”
my heart breaks
“You should be happy..
… aren’t you happy?"
they ask
I stare into the mirror
I don’t recognize the face that stares back
“Yes, yes I’m happy”
I say
They smile
I hide the shattered remains of my heart behind my back
