Hey stranger,

this post is something I'm not sure

classes as a poem or a story, so I shall

just call it a letter to an old friend

I was never what you wanted.

I was reckless and believed I was fated

to be no one.

In that moment, I neither wanted

Or needed someone to help me change.

In that moment, I believed no effort

should be wasted on me.

But there you were.

You were my beacon of light in the

never ending cave that was my mind.

You were my saviour from the eternity

of shame I cast upon myself.

The loyalty I failed to see in those

around me was clearer than ever before.

And still, you are here.

You were once my yellow, my purple, my blue.

All the colours in the spectrum

and you were them for me.

All the feelings a person can feel

and I felt them for you.

But that time has ed.

The person that was once my rainbow is

now the reason I see in black and white.

The person you wanted me to see no longer

replaces the image of who you truly are.

Now after you, I can see clearly and I know

what I want.

If by some greater fate you are reading this,

this time I'm here to say:

you were never what I wanted either
