Art sourcing and crediting artists.

Hello everyone! I've had this amino for a few days now, and I must say, this community is pretty nice! Everyone is making lovely posts and I like that people are generally taking part in the community! :>

However, one thing has been bothering me quite a bit. I've seen a LOT of posts containing images, both edited and not edited, that do not belong to the poster.

So, as an artist, I want to let you know that reposting unsourced art is NOT okay. (Also, saying the art isn't yours DOESN'T source it- it's not the right way to credit the artist!)

Artists spend hours on their art, and just looking at all of the art I’ve see here unsourced, I bet took days! These images that have hours of love and ion put into them, and even if it isn't a realistic work like the Mona Lisa, it's STILL ART and STILL WORTHY OF RECOGNITION.

So hear me out. You might ask, "why can't I just say I found it on google and it's not mine?"

Well, the thing about posting our art online is... We kind of do it so people will notice our skill. No, we aren't attention hogs, but we totally are at the same time. We make these fanarts so people can see and enjoy them, and then proceed to look at us and think, "wow, this artist is great! I'll follow them!"

We post our art for people to see it, just like you post about your favourite character and OCs for people to see them. So when someone takes that and either calls it their own or doesn't say it belongs to us, it's discouraging.

Imagine walking into a store and picking up a brand new iPhone. Now imagine simply walking out and shouting, "money to the cashier!" That isn't right! Now notice the resemblance between "money to the cashier" and "credit to the artist."

So please, even if you add the sources in the caption or at the very bottom of the post, just make sure the artist gets the credit they deserve.

Here is a short clip of me sourcing an image that a had posted in 3 minuets, it’s not a lengthy process and it’s relatively easy.

Art sourcing “tutorial” for the BNHA amino example lmao because I’m low key annoyed

a note to the leaders if any happen to read this post, I’d love to propose the idea of an art sourcing team, possibly stricter art policies and if you’d let me make 2 official archives of artist that do and do not allow re-s :)

I'm glad someone finally took their time to make a post about this! It's so important and it saddens me whenever I ask for source because I'm interested in the artist and people just reply with "found it through google/pinterest, a friend sent it to me" etc. It just shows how little most people care. So far I only posted one artwork and had no trouble crediting it, but I still haven't really found a way to credit or even find Japanese artists (best example pixiv), since the reverse image searcher can't seem to find any artwork from those websites and suggests pinterest instead, which really bothers me. :/

Thank you so much! Hopefully I can get back to you and the other people who’ve offered to help with a team soon!

(Also the xefros you drew for your icon is GORGEOUS! Do you have the homestuck amino? or a tumblr/some other social media platform you post your art to so I can follow you? :hearts: )
