You are the paint that seeped into the sky
The one that makes the colors

You are the paint that seeped into the sky

The one that makes the colors spread

Into beautiful patterns

a Renaissance artist would copy

You are a white lily in a field of dandelions

But a dandelion in a field of brown grass

A wish from the floating seeds

Blown from a little dreamer

You are the perfect notebook page

Ripped from the spine of a young one’s journal

And hung up on the fridge

By a proud mom and dad

You are the first sip of a sweet drink

The fizz on my lip or

The cute milk line on a child or

The coffee smell on a teen’s

You are the smooth and safe kisses

Shared between lovers

On a warm but rainy day

Snuggled in their blankets

You are the loveliest things in life

And you make me want to experience them

All over again.

I’m not particularly a fan of these types of poems, because I usually prefer the ones that offer a less “rosy” and more personal description of the person they’re meant to be about (the good, the bad, the ugly, and the “why I still love the hell out of them anyway”), or the ones that forgo the metaphors altogether and go into detail about the person itself, and what specifically about them makes the narrator’s heart skip a beat.

But this one is very sweet, and does have some very unusual, creative and (more importantly) almost painfully down-to-earth (but in a good way!) metaphors that made it a lot more interesting. The ones that exemplified different phases of life (childhood, teen years, adulthood), for example, were a pretty unique approach for a poem like this. Which I appreciate.

Basically, I’m saying you made me enjoy a type of poem I don’t usually enjoy all that much  So kudos for that :+1:
