Thunder crashed and the rain crashed harder. Yuuri was freezing and the water level had risen three centimeters since he’d come to. Whatever he’d been drugged with had obviously not worn off, it wasn’t usually this hard to think. A chill ran up his spine as a gust of wind found its way through the tunnel. Wait? He was missing a shoe too. Where did that go?

“Well, Yuuri. It’s about time you wake up.” The voice was hard to decipher from the sounds of the rain and rushing water.

Yuuri lifted his head upon the faint mention of his name. “What d’you want… with me?” His speech was slow and a bit slurred together.

There was a laugh once again. Why did that voice sound so familiar? He knew he’d heard it countless times before. “I thought you were much more clever than this.” Came the chiding voice. “After all this time, you’re still the same. To think I actually let you take things this far.”

He couldn’t hear the “tsk tsk” over the rain. He doubled over once he was pelted in the stomach with a series of kicks. The last blow landing on his head rather than his abdomen, sending him off to the side face first into the dirty water. With a groan he pulled himself back up. He could still feel the sandy texture of the soil between his teeth, even after he managed to rid himself of the taste of dirt and oil.

“The fun will begin too soon.”

The sholshing over water signaled that the assailant had left for now. Based on the direction they had moved further into the tunnel. Did they have a death wish? A cough signaled a thought in his mind as he played through each crime scene. Sara Crispino had been the first to disappear, signs of a struggle were evident. It was a clear evening. The last person to see her had been her brother, Michele, who was the one to actually report her missing.

He considered the facts. Michele was Sara’s twin brother as well as her Personal Assistant. He had access to all the details of his sister’s life. Yet, he never shared the same popularity as his sister. He had given significant input on her men’s lines and received none of the credit. She’d kept all of it for herself. His relationship with his sister had always been at question. Michele was more than over-protective, he would constantly put himself between Sara and the many men, Viktor, Christophe, and Phichit included.

Yuuri felt a sudden surge go to his head. He laid awkwardly against the wall, eyes heavy, but as he struggled to fight against it, his eyes shut.

“So explain it to me. Every detail. Don’t leave anything out.” Yuuri said as he crossed his arms. He looked briefly to Minami who was beside him before turning his full attention to Michele.

“We met for an early dinner around 4:30. We had to work out a few things regarding her meeting that night at the office, also to celebrate her birthday.” Michele explained quickly. “But after dinner---”

“I said every detail. Where did you go for dinner?” Yuuri questioned.

“The Italian Bistro on 5th. L’ultima Cena.” He added. “We ordered. I don’t what we had. We eat there often.” His voice shook as he spoke, but with a heavy swallow he continued. “After dessert I gave her a birthday gift. She told me she would meet me at my place after her meeting at 6:30, but she never showed up.”

Yuuri stared at the Italian for a moment as he processed the story. “What was the gift?” He finally asked.

“A Bulgari Necklace. It’s an onyx stone set in 18 karat yellow gold.”

Yuuri nodded. A rather expensive and odd gift for a brother to purchase for a sister, but noted nonetheless. “Your office is how far from the restaurant?”

“Just five or six blocks. Sara usually takes a cab, but it’s well within walking distance.” Michele explained, nerves obviously getting the better of him.

Yuuri’s arms uncrossed abruptly and he started his exit from the room. “Come Minami.” His speech was rapid. “Should we require further interview Detective Lee will you.” He waved his arm and disappeared through the door.

Minami carefully took his photographs while Yuuri examined the scene. Trash cans knocked over, a relatively new and expensive ear ring next to the strewn trash. A chain that held a locked gate was still locked and rusted, a sign this area went unused for long periods. The area was just wide enough for a car. Yuuri’s eyes turned to the ground. The scattered gravel and dust had tire tracks. “Minam--”

“What has happened to my sister?” Michele shouted as he ran through the very tracks Yuuri was about to have Minami photograph. Yuuri looked up at the brunette with a scowl. “Get out of here. You’re tampering with a crime scene.” He spat.

Several officers stepped forward to restrain the man. “Sir, you cannot be here! Let the professionals handle this.”

Between the police restraining the man and Michele’s panic the evidence Yuuri had noticed was disrupted beyond repair. He sighed. He could only hope it would be visible in some of the photos the police and Minami had taken.

“Shut up!” Came a shout that brought Yuuri from his thoughts. He heard a groan that wasn’t the perpetrators nor his own. “If you’re quiet this won’t hurt as much.” They said eerily.

“Just let me go!”

Yuuri turned his head towards the sound of the next voice. He felt his heart race. That was...

“What do you think you’re doing?!” Minami exclaimed as Detective Lee walked to the door carrying. “You can’t just take those!”

“Excuse me?” Seung-gil responded in a cold voice as he spun around to face Minami. “These are now police property. Evidence in the crimes.”

Sueng-gil turned once more marking an end to their conversation. Confusion engulfed Minami as he stared at the detective’s back. His reaction made no sense. Minami had been certain of what the evidence showed he showed Sueng-gil as he shared his theory, but the reaction he had expected to receive from the detective was the opposite of what had occurred. As soon as Minami had finished speaking, the detective had grown very still.

It took a moment for Minami to even recognize the change in the detective. He had been so focused on what had been in front of him and desperation to solve this before time ran out for Yuuri that he nearly missed it. It was once he had looked over to the detective he saw how he had grown pale. A moment later the detective immediately began to snatch the images off the table and remove other images and information for the board, all the while refusing to acknowledge Minami or why he was doing it.

In that moment Minami realized the detective had been off throughout this whole investigation. In the weeks that had ed Minami just assumed the detective had been tired considering how high profile this case had become, but as he quickly scanned his memories he realized the detective himself had made careless mistakes. Mistakes that had annoyed Yuuri, but Minami had just assumed the stress and lack of sleep was getting to him, but now it felt different and Minami was not going to let this suspicion go.

“What is going on Detective?” Minami called out to his back. “The careless mistakes over these last few weeks, evidence that has been considered mishandled while under your care, insisting we were wrong about only one perpetrator… what are you trying to hide?”
