             ༄▾╰╮Area Of Challenge

Creating a comfortable Fall-scape

may be difficult if you neglect small

details for the bigger picture.

Ensure you aren't doing this but

ing that your characters

are experiencing this world you've

created in realtime. Your characters

don't simply go get coffee and

that's it. Not notice smaller details,

like the tiredness in the baristas

eyes, the overwhelming smell of

pumpkin, and even the giggle of

sugar hyped children in the shop.

Your characters experience the

world you create in the same

manner, they feel the warmth of

a bonfire, the chilly breeze

carrying the thick scent of ever-

green trees and the apple cider

across the way. Your characters

see and hear the crunch as they

step through a freshly blown pile

of fallen leaves in the park, they

see couples out for picnics, see

fewer and fewer ducks at the

nearby pond, they see birds

flying south for winter and

squirrels running about to

prepare for winter coming.

Be sure that when creating

your worlds that you don't

neglect the smaller details

to indicate to your readers

that "it's fall" without necessarily

needing to say so.

It's imperative that when

creating a world that breathes

the crisp air of fall, one needs to

that coziness does not

only equal indicators by way of

costuming and dialogue. When

you are writing your piece, you'll

want to be conscious of the kind

of fall setting you're trying to

create. This means that you'll

want to ensure your piece has

appropriate weather for the

setting. As a person living in

South Carolina, I can guarantee

than fall tends to be far more chilly

and rainy than crisp breezes

and sunny weather.

You basically need to research

and understand what fall looks

like in the main location you're

writing about and then create

cues based on that. If you have

a "traditional" Fall-scape, you

might have a character in boots,

jeans, a tee and sweater. The

weather could be slightly chilly,

a soft breeze, and leaves starting

to turn. The days start to shorten,

you can note minor characters in

the backgrounds and their habits

for warmer clothes, shop keepers

needing to come out and sweep

away leaves from their stores

more often. This paired with your

stereotypical coffeeshops, pastries,

and maybe even a character

beginning to sing christmas tunes

way too early, can add dramatically

to the familiarity and warm fuzzies

that people get in the slower Fall/

winter months.

             ༄▾╰╮Book Review

Coming into Autumn, it seems to

come with the tempting idea to

curl up on the couch with a good

book. As many new books are

being announced, such as

Midnight Sun and The Ballad of

Songbirds and Snakes, it will be

tempting to settle there. However,

it might be time to step back, in

the midst of this busy world, and

revisit the classics.

Over the past few weeks I have

been reading Charles Dickens’ Great

Expectations , a great beginner

novel to those who find it hard to

read older english style. The story

begins with the young protagonist,

Pip, who encounters a stranger in

the marsh near his home. Living

with his sister and her husband,

he encounters other strange

characters in his life as it goes on.

Pip’s curious imagination and

ideals for life lead him to having

a perfect image of what his future

should be, and who it’d be with.

As events unravel, his hopes for

that future slowly dwindle, but

with determination and a surpris-

ing hand, things begin to change.

As someone who usually takes to

fantasy and science fiction first, I

can say that this book is a good

breath of fresh air. It takes the

reader back to a place of simplicity.

The classic innocence of a child's

mind being the main point of view

makes the book easy to interact

with as he grows into an adult. For

most of our who range

from teens to young adults, I

recommend taking this book into

consideration. Get out of our

comfort zone and become cozy

again. Do something new by read-

ing something older. Take some

time to see some and share the

classics with friends, there is

nothing better than story time in

the hustle and bustle of our lives.

Thanks for reading and I hope you

consider this book for your casual

reading in this new season!

Now Playing - This is home - Cavetown

⇆ㅤㅤㅤㅤ◁ㅤㅤ❚❚ㅤㅤ▷ㅤㅤㅤㅤ↻

This song is a little dark and very sad.

It shows the world through the eyes of

a man struggling with his life because

he is transgender.

「⸙͎」

Often I am upset

That I cannot fall in love but I guess

This avoids the stress of falling out of it

The singer is talking about how

it is difficult for him to find love.

Although he can't find or fall in love

he knows he won't have to go through

the pain of breaking up with someone.

Are you tired of me yet?

I'm a little sick right now but I swear

When I'm ready I will fly us out of here

In this section he is talking

about how he is feeling unwell

or "sick." He's addressing the fact

that he doesn't like what he is going

through and is telling himself one day

everything will get better and he will

one day be able to set himself free.

I'll cut my hair

To make you stare

I'll hide my chest and I'll

Figure out a way to get us out of here

For years I was actually very confused

about this part. I wasn't aware of what

the singer was going through, but in this

part he is talking about how he cuts his

hair and hides his chest for himself.

He had transitioned and the person who

is staring, is society. then he tells himself

once again he'll find a way out of the pain.

Turn off your porcelain face

I can't really think right now and this place

There's too many colours

Enough to drive all of us insane

he is telling himself he should stop

hiding and be open about him being

transgender. he thinks there are too

many people who are against it and

it's slowly making him "insane" or in pain.

Are you dead?

Sometimes I think I'm dead

'Cause I can feel ghosts and ghouls wrapping my head

But I don't wanna fall asleep just yet

Here he's talking about how

he feels suffocated from society

he calls them his ghosts and ghouls

he talks about how although he feels

like he's dying he doesn't want to.

He wants to keep living on and be free.

My eyes went dark

I don't know where

My pupils are but I'll

Figure out a way to get us out of here

He's talks about how his eyes

went dark and how he can't find his

pupils, and he is showing how he

is feeling lost in this world and unsure

of what to do but he tells himself

one day everything will get better

Get a load of this monster

He doesn't know how to communicate

His mind is in a different place

Will everybody please give him a little bit of space?

he shows here how people look at him

and how he has a difficult time talking

to people and making friends. hie mind

is wondering and trying to feel found again

and all he asks is for space to breath in.

Get a load of this trainwreck

His hair's a mess and he doesn't know who he is yet

But little do we know the stars

Welcome him with open arms

he talks about how he thinks he's a wreck

and how he doesn't look ok but there

is a time somewhere, where he will

be welcomed with open arms and finally be free

Oh

Time is

Slowly

Tracing his face

But strangely he feels at home in this place

This part is a little dark but he's

talking about how the pain is

slowly eating away but he begins

to feel more comfortable with it

             ༄▾╰╮Rant

Cuddly creatures may be the

perfect companions to some,

but most definitely not ideal

for some others. With quaran-

tine going on past six months

now, people have used this

event as a reason to get a pet

to occupy themselves, only to

ignore and/or neglect them

once their interest in the ani-

mal slid down its peak. For

example, a old friend of mine

posted that she had gotten a

gecko midway through quara-

ntine, and then made an ad

for someone to buy it quite

recently saying, “I’ve lost int-

erest in them, and they need

a better owner.”

While it’s good that they

realize they’re a poor owner,

this was majorly frustrating,

as they had only had the

poor gecko for a mere 2

months. So, that leads me to

this rant.

If you want to get a pet because

you saw it online or because

you’re interested in them, one

week’s worth of interest in an

animal isn’t enough to get one.

You need to do research, ensure

you could devote your time to

this animal, and be safe with it!

People often own animals recently

and neglect them, only to take

care of them in small spurts when

it benefits them. The best example

is a family member and their Ham-

ster, who posted it online for

attention only to neglect it after it

lost popularity. This is maddening,

as this is someone who claimed

they gave it so much attention

and love, and then was half-way

on death’s door about a week

after they didn’t get as much

attention from it.

So? If you’re interested in buying

a pet, what should you do?

Well, make sure you’re interested

in it, and understand it’s a huge

commitment. These pets are not

here solely for you. You need to

care for them as well.

Make sure you’re appropriately

caring for them! If you realize

you’re not, try to fix it!

And most of all, give them love!

They want your attention more

than anything else!
