The Prettiest Flower

This was originally for the #CMCFable but I realized I didn't do it correctly, so, it's just a story instead. I redid my entry to follow the rules.

Once upon a time, in a world full of light. There was a little flower, beautiful and bright. It smiled upon the world. The flower believed everything was good. The trees knew the flower was a foolish little seed. For the trees were old and wise.

The trees knew about the children. The children who live at the end of the path. The children pull flowers from the ground ripping them apart from their roots. Then they take them away, never to be seen again.

The trees tried to warn the flower when they came. They told the flower to close it's petals. The children don't pick flowers that haven't bloomed. But the flower wanted the children to see her petals. She wanted to make them happy with her bright colors.

Sadly, the trees were right. When the children came, they pulled the flower, snapping her stem. The trees watched as she was taken away. Their branches drooped as the flower was held in the chubby hands of a child.

When the children got home, the flower looked around. She didn't know where she was. Where were the trees? Where was the Sun? Where was the grass, the berries, the dirt? The flower is in pain. Her stem feels cold. She begins to close her petals.

She was placed in a vase filled partially with water. She feels better. She blooms once more, showing her colors. She is placed in the window. Where she can look up at the sunlight. The flower sat in the window watching the days go by.

She was alone and sad. She missed the wind and the trees. She started feeling weaker. The water would not keep her alive forever. Her petals slowly faded. Her stem was soggy and not stiff.

The flower slowly wilted and withered away into dust. The Children never stoped picking pretty flowers.

(Sorry the ending is a little boring, after I realized I messed up, I wasn't as into the story anymore and lost interest, but I still wanted to post it)
