TRIS POV
I stood by my car for a couple of minutes, not really paying attention to all the stares I was getting since I was too busy talking to Tory. Most of them were probably wondering who I was talking to and why, considering I had just gotten out of the car with someone who in this school would normally never talk to me in like a billion years ever.
We met at the gym the first time, and let's just say she laughed her ass off when she saw me at first.
But after that, she introduced me to Armar, the guy who taught me to throw my first proper punch, since my own regular punches were... well, quite bad.
I'll quote Tori here - "They're so bad I doubt you could even fight your way out of a paper bag'.
From there we grew super close to each other, even attending the races together whenever I could sneak out.
Tori also knew that I was the definition of loser at this school, and once out of my usual racing clothes, I looked like a girl who hadn't hit puberty yet. She was much better looking than me as well, probably because she didn't have to hide her race life. Racing on her part was pretty legal, mostly.
This made her a totally hotshot to all of the boys. As for me, well, none of the boys in this school would ever associate hot with me considering I seemed like more of a 'date this girl for a hundred bucks' type of a girl.
She waved good bye and made her way out of the parking lot, driving my car if you could call it that. Well it was my car, but it wasn't my usual car. The usual car for me would be a beaten-up truck, since I wanted to blend in with crowd and not stand out. But that wasn't Tory's style at all. She was more of the 'I am here bitches and you will bow down to my infinite glory' type.
It wasn't till the bell rang that I ed that I was still in the parking lot, so I sprinted all the way to my first lesson, Music. We had a new teacher for that ever since our last one left due to Four and his gang.
As I ran in, I noticed something really strange. This new teacher had the whole class silent, and that usually never happens. She also seemed way too familiar the way she was looking at me, but then again I was doubled over like running was the hardest thing for me in the world.
All an act of course. I can't have people knowing about any of the things I do, since it would ruin the image I have built for myself.
Back in the present, I reared myself up finally, and it wasn't until my eyes swept across the figure in front of me that I noticed the teacher actually was..
"TORY WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!?" I practically shouted out.
Don't blame me, I was really confused about how she got here before me. Then again, she was mysterious like that at times. But I was pretty sure she had left in my car down at the parking lot.
Or did she? The bell rang just as she had pulled away.
Who am I kidding, I so totally did shout it out!
It was then that I noticed every one was suddenly looking at me. Tory stood in the front, laughing and smiling menacingly at me with her mischievous smile of hers.
"Well Tris.." she said, emphasizing my name before continuing. "You must really want to sing, so come up as this is how we are gonna do this lesson from now on."
I gulped. I usually got out of it with my last teacher, but Tory would never let me out of it. Not one chance in hell, and so now I would actually have to sing in front of the class.
As I made my way over to the guitar stand, I gave her a 'I will make you pay' look before grabbing a guitar and making my way up.
"Emm... I am gonna sing a Whisky Lullaby."
I start to play the guitar and after the first few cords start to sing a Whisky Lullaby.
She put him out like the burnin' end of a [c]midnight cigarette
She broke his heart he spent his whole life [c]tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little [c]at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get [c]her off his mind
Until the night
[1st Chorus]
He put that bottle to his head and pulled [c]the trigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his [c]knees
We found him with his face down in the [c]pillow
With a note that said I'll love her till I die
And when we buried him beneath the [c]willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby
The rumors flew but nobody knew how [c]much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the [c]whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain away a little at a [c]time
But she never could get drunk enough to [c]get him off her mind
Until the night
[2nd Chorus]
She put that bottle to her head and pulled [c]the trigger
And finally drank away his memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her [c]knees
We found her with her face down in the [C]pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby
When I finished, they were all looking at me, even Four and all of his friends. There were also some shocked faces of the people that just blended in the background and didn't add much to any thing.
And then, Drew stood up and started laughing. More people ed in laughing, probably out of fear of him and his gang, but I didn't care.
I took off down the hall way towards the bathroom, locking myself in one of the stalls. And that's when I heard someone coming in. I pulled my feet in so that they couldn't see me and that's when I heard.
"She is good, like really good. I can't believe it. Drew is going to pay for this."
I kept my feet up for a bit till I couldn't hear anyone. Then after a while, I put my feet on the floor and walked out of the stall with red eyes and a puffy face.
seeing that they are still there I back in to the stall and try and close it quietly but the door bangs shut and all I think is shit I'm screwed as the door opens again
I could see them both look at me before the girl with the mocha skin talks.
"What are you doing in there" she said, with more of a raised eyebrow and a half laugh to her words like she was trying to figure out why I was wearing what I was and and who I could be.
So I just stated simply "Flushing my own head down the toilet, what else could I be doing here."
I mean, come on, even I knew for a fact without even looking in the mirror that I had puffy red eyes.
They both smiled and laughed slightly and I moved back to try and move round them. But it was no use as I was blocked in the spot where I was. I knew I probably could leave by the way if I wanted to, since their stance wasn't threatening or anything. It was more like they actually only wanted to talk with me.
The girl with the mocha skin spoke again. "Hey, that's right, do you wanna sit with us at lunch? I mean I haven't seen you before and well by the way Peter acted like you could use some help, no offence. "
Well now I was curious. And if push came to shove, I would just fight my way of it and call it luck or some shit.
Then the bell went off, signalling the start of the next class. This made me smile as it was Art, where I was free to draw whatever I wanted. And so we left the bathroom, me with my red and puffy eyes, and made our way round to Art class. I made a beeline to my usual seat at the back of the art room where no one looked but Christina and Lynn grabbed a hold of me and dragged me over to where they were sitting, putting me in between them as if to say 'Just try and mess with her'.
Little did they know I was more than capable of looking after my self. It was just Drew that I couldn't deal with myself and I couldn't fight him or Tory would ask about it.
Just as we took out seats, Tory walked in, leaving me even more confused than I was in music. She sent a 'Sorry' look my way knowing what the song was about and why I had taken off running.
She then addressed the class"I am Miss Wuu and I will be teaching Music and Art but Miss Wuu makes me feel old so call me Tory."
She said that with one of her smiles that said 'If you even dare call me Miss Wuu, I will kill you on the spot'.
That was just her style, as she liked to shock people. She had done that a total of two times, by getting me to sing in music especially since I just earned my grades by playing the piano, and then again by asking people to call her by her first name. But then again, she was only like twenty so you could understand why it would make her feel old especially when she wasn't that much older than any of us.
