The Mystery of Prank Wars 2020

November 13th of 2020. The sky was a dull shade of grey covering the small town of Alaska, Pennsylvania. Not many people know of its existence, nor where exactly it is located. However, the people here are the kindest around but also some of the wackiest.

The town clowns, also known as my friend group, are planning their silliest event of the year. Together, they host a huge prank wars event for anyone to spectate. An event lasting only twenty four hours, but it still causes a great disturbance in the townspeople’s lives...especially mine.

Alauna, my energetic, happy go lucky twin sister, was laying on her bed, kicking up the duvet and giggling like an idiot.

“What could you possibly be so excited about?” I asked, annoyed by the unnecessary noise she made.

Her long, blonde ponytail swished to the back of her head as she stared at me with a deadpan expression. “Why do you think this is silly? It’s almost midnight on November fourteenth! How could you possibly forget the most important occasion of the year!!!”

The excitement exhausted me greatly, and I slammed my head against my pillow. “I don’t give two fucks about that stupid prank war of you guys’. It’s childish, stupid, and a huge waste of time. Plus, it interrupts people’s lives, and not everyone has the luxury of being an irresponsible child for twenty four long, precious hours. Got that?”

Alauna’s face fell when she heard this and sulked at the corner of her bed. “Well, alright.... But Alaina, you’re gonna regret not ever ing in with us. It’s rather fun…”

I rolled my eyes and threw my duvet over my head. “Goodnight sis.”

The sun rose and came through the window, blinding me awake. “Damnit, it’s too early for this shit....” I mumbled, rubbing my eyes to adjust to the brightness. I looked to Alauna’s bed and noticed she was missing. However, I was thrown off by the chaotic mess she left her bed in. She never, ever leaves her bed unmade.

Thankfully though, it was quiet.

Though as I tip-toed down the staircase, the quietness got to my head. No one was in the house, not even Alauna. To my left, everything was normal, but when I turned my head to the right, glass littered the floor in large shards. The sofa was upside down, slashed, and torn. Everything from the coffee table to the bookshelf was in shambles.

Though I was a little in shock, I recalled what the date was and sighed in annoyance. “Alright, haha Alauna funny prank. You’re cleaning this up when we get home later!”

There was no response, but I let it go. There was no point in worrying about it now. The day ahead was bound to be filled with exhausting pranks and people messing around.

Way up high in the sky, the afternoon sun beat down on the pavement. I was taking my afternoon walk when something strange caught my eye. Normally, Alauna wouldn’t go to the park by herself, but I caught a glimpse of her golden ponytail behind some trees. No one was following behind her, so I decided to check it out.

I stopped for a split second after ing the date, but I wasn’t one hundred percent positive my sister was okay. I hadn’t seen her all morning, and that’s very unusual, even on Prank Day.

Carefully rounding the corner, I searched up and down for my twin sister, hoping to find her on a bench sitting. However, the sight I laid eyes on was absolutely horrific.

There she was, laying in her own pool of blood below her left leg. At first, I panicked, but then I realised it could all be a prank, seeing as today was November fourteen. Because of this, I laughed painfully at the sight.

“Haha Alauna, you caught me once again! You can get up now. I’ve been caught.” I played along and tried to smile happily, but something felt wrong. I didn’t want to get close to her and touch the oozing wounds on her chest and legs. With a frown, I turned around and walked out of the park, hoping I didn’t make the wrong decision.

November fourteenth continued on, and strange things continued to happen throughout the day. Someone followed me the entire way to Starbucks, Alauna’s friend Abby was hanging by a noose on a streetlamp, and Ethan robbed the nearest bank.

All these crimes happening around me gave me an uneasy feeling, but I kept pushing it to the side. These have to be all pranks. There’s no way all of these crimes would actually be committed all in one day!

The sky turned a dark shade of grey and red as the sun began to set. Tonight was the party held on Prank Wars to summarise all of the pranks and who specifically won the event. Yes, this childish parade is a competition to see who can be the idiot of the friend group.

When I came through the door, however, no one else showed. Alauna wasn’t at her usual table laughing, Abby wasn’t working the music, Ethan wasn’t greeting people at the door, no one was here. The decour hung from the ceiling and covered the tables, but nothing was here to enjoy it except for me.

I turned to leave the empty house, but I slammed into a large, hard chest. Immediately bouncing back, I looked at the face of the owner in fear. There stood a masked man with a large chest and a sledge hammer in his left hand.

I tried to run away, but my feet were literally covered in glue. I tried to scream but my mouth was duct taped with three layers. All I could do is shut my eyes tight and wait for the sledge hammer to enter my skull with a crack…

I jumped and woke up, throwing my duvet on the ground and completely drenched in sweat. The sun barely peeked through the curtains, and Alauna was fast asleep underneath her white and pink coloured duvet. Shakily, I grabbed my phone off of the nightstand and checked the date. November fifteenth.

I slept through the entire day and all of that was just a nightmare?

Confused, I decided to go back to sleep, but the group chat started to blow up with messages. Ethan talked about how crazy the previous day was. Apparently, everything was sort of the same, but not the way I had ed it.

According to Ethan, I had taken part in all of the pranks they had set previously, but even worse.

They were all set in the same places where the crimes and suicides took place.
