Art Commission Review

This is something I always like to do when I get an art commission from an artist. On top of paying them their wage for the service, I like to give a tip based on the experience, and write a review about it so other people can get an idea of what it’ll be like to get a commission from the artist. It’s also good exposure for the artist and gives the artist an opportunity to see their strengths and weaknesses as a professional offering their services.

So I found her commission page by chance in the wiki and I knew immediately that her art style was what I was looking for! Xina is such a great person, she was so open to the request and really seemed to genuinely care about making sure I was happy with the product. She communicated with me the whole time, letting me know where she was in the progress, when she’d be busy and couldn’t work on it, and estimated when she’d be done. She sent me progress shots and kept me in the loop the whole time! She seemed to really care about making sure I was happy and satisfied, and I really appreciated that! Just a great person and very communicative.

Again, she was very communicative and kept me in the loop with progress. I loved that she kept checking in with me and letting me know what was going on and where she was. She sent me progress shots so I could see where she was with the commission, and to check if their was anything I wanted to change. She even asked me to send a closer picture of my character’s shoes so she could make sure she drew them correctly. Her attention to detail was fantastic and the art really represents my character. I love her art style and I think it compliments the Wizard101 art very nicely!

Honestly, the con that comes to mind isn’t even really something against her or that she did wrong! Because she was great! The con is actually about her pricing. When we were discussing and negotiating prices for the commission, based on her prices and the fact that I had asked for a little extra, I felt a higher price would be more appropriate for the work and effort. But she turned down the higher offer despite this. I worry that she undervalues her talent and skill, and should maybe consider adjusting her prices, especially when there’s a little extra being added to the commission than her commission wiki covers. I just want to make sure she gets fair pay for her talent! And boy does she have a lot of talent!

Anyways! On to the best part: the art! So I commissioned her to draw my wizard101 character in her art style. I’ve been playing this character for almost 15 years and I wanted to commemorate the occasion! I thought the best way to do so would be with some custom art!
