The Arbor

Off the coast of the southwesternmost part of the Reach, lyes the island of The Arbor. This land mass is ruled by House Redwyn, also this island is the home of the largest fleet in the Seven Kingdoms. The Redwyn Fleet. They patrol the Redwyne Straight, which is the body of water that separates mainland Westeros from The Arbor. The island is home to a few settlements. There is a port town called Ryamsport this town was sacked after the fall of the Shield islands by the ironborn. Two other settlements occupy the island, Starfish Harbor. There are smaller islands in the vicinity of the Arbor. These lands are Stonecrab Cay, Bastards Cradle, Mermaids Palace, Horseshoe Rock and the Isle of Pigs. The Arbor is one of the richest areas in Westeros, it is also known for making some of the best wine on the continent.

The founder of House Redwyne was Gilbert of the Vines, he is said to have taught the locals of the Arbor to make wine. During the era of the First Men the Driftwood Kings, like Qhored Hoare, power, and influence reached as far south to the Arbor. Eventually, the weaker kings lost the island. Since the Ironborn king’s influences grew weaker the Arbor became an independent kingdom. It was later incorporated into Merun III Gardener realm when the king of the Arbor was lost at sea. Since both the fleets of Oldtown and The Arbor were now part of the same kingdom, they helped fend off naval attacks during the Andal invasion.

Some say that before the Aegon’s conquest, Lord Aegon Targaryen of Dragonstone was at the Arbor as a guest. He still visited the island during his royal progress. During Jahaerys I Targaryens visit to Vermithor, he sampled many of the Arbor wines. When Aerea Targaryen went missing, The Arbor and the Shield Islands saw Dreamfyre along with its rider Rhaena Targaryen flying overhead in the search. The Arbor ed Ling Aegon II Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons. Lord Redwyne took on a squire known as Martyn Hightower, Unwin Peake’s second son was also fostered on the island by Lord Redwyne. Unfortunately, the young lad died during a sailing accident.

During King Aerys I Targaryen’s reign, the Arbor suffered from a terrible drought that turned their grapes into raisins. The iornborn of Dagon Greyjoy also raided the island during this time. When Prince Oberyn and Elia Martell were on their way to broker a marriage to the Lannisters, they stopped at the Arbor.
