Who is Septa Lemore really?

Greetings and welcome to another Blog. This time I want to talk about a theory that is in my opinion very interesting. Namely, Septa Lemore and why It is possible that she isn't the one who she claims to be. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy!

ＷＨＯ ＩＳ ＳＥＰＴＡ ＬＥＭＯＲＥ?

Let's begin with a simple introduction of her Character for all of you who don't know who she is. Septa Lemore is, as her name already gives away, a Septa of the Faith of the Seven. She accompanies Young Griff on his journey and takes the role of a spiritual tutor for him. She is said to be over 40 years old but despite her age still attractive. Her hair is brown and stretch marks hint that she has beared a child.

She is a crewmember of the 'Shy Maid' and teaches Young Griff about the Faith of the Seven. Tyrion believes that she has not always been a septa. While he has figured out the true identities of Griff and Young Griff he doesn't know anything about Septa Lemore's past or what motives she has to travel with them.

ＭＯＴＨＥＲ ＯＦ ＴＹＥＮＥ ＳＡＮＤ

Now to the first theory. It is possible that Septa Lemore is the mother of Tyene Sand, one of the Sand Snakes and bastard daughter of Prince Oberyn Martell. Evidences for this are that she has given birth to a child and that her age of 40 years would fit to Tyene's Age who is in her early 20's. Furthermore is it stated rhat Tyene's mother has been a septa.

"Her hair was gold as well, and her eyes were deep blye Pools. Lady Tyene's voice was gentle, and she looked as sweet as summer strawberries. Her mother had been a Septa, and Tyene had an air of almost otherworldly innocence about her"

However is Tyene described as having golden hair. Both Oberyn and Lemore have darker hair what makes it unlikely that a child they would have together has light hair. Though, we know of multiple cases were people from the World of Ice and Fire have dyed their hair. Sansa Stark changes her hair colour from Red to a darker tone when she disguises herself as Alayne Stone and even Young Griff and Griff who are close to Septa Lemore dye their hair blue. This makes it possible that she died her hair as well to hide her true identity.

Another point against this theory though is that it is strange that Lemore hasn't ed her daughter or at least anyone else from Dorne. She accompanies Young Griff and could

help him by ing his Legitimacy at Dorne, yet she doesn't do so.

A further thing ro mention to proove that this theory probably is false is, that stoyrtelling-wise it wouldn’t add anything to the Plot. At least so far we don’t know how the mother of Tyene could be in any way important for the story, but on the other hand GRRM is known for surprising his readers.

ＡＳＨＡＲＡ ＤＡＹＮＥ

This is another one of the most widely know theories surrounding Lemore. Many assume that she is Ashara Dayne in disguise. There are many mysteries and unclear things we don't yet know about Ashara, but before I want to touch on this topic further I want to give a few information about Ashara.

Lady Ashara Dayne was known for her great

beauty and had many people who were infatuated with her, for example Barristan Selmy and according to rumours even Eddard Stark. At the tourney of Harrenhal she danced with sevetal people and according to Allyria Dayne Ned Stark and Ashara fell in love. Barristan loved her as well and assumes that someone dishonored her at the tourney. The septa training is something common for noblewomen who have been dishonored.

After the events at the Tower of joy Ned returned the ancestral sword Dawn to Starfall and to also inform the Daynes of Ser Arthur's death. Ashara is said to have jumped out of the tower into the sea but her body never was found. Some people say she did so because of a broken heart, some assume it was because of a stillborn child, others think she was devastated about her brothers death.

There are several reasons of why this theory could be true. Since her body was not found it is possible that she is alive and the fact that people say that she gave birth to a child would fit with the stretch marks Septa Lemore is described to have.

Reasons against this theory are though that Lady Ashara had a very striking eye colour. Violet, and this is never mentioned or noticed.

Something that is very interesting though is, that 'Septa Lemore' is assumed to be an anagram for something different by many people and one of those anagrams is 'Pale Meteors'. This might sound like nothing at first, but let's think about House Dayne and Ashara in particular.

The sigil of House Dayne shows a falling star, commonly known as a meteor, crossed by a white sword on a violet ground. Here we could find the 'Meteors' part of said Anagram. Furthermore do the people say that Ashara jumped from the top so called Palestone sword, one of the towers at Starfall. This would give us the 'Pale' part and together they would complete the anagran 'Pale Meteors'.

Furthermore was Ashara Dayne described as being Elia Martel's best friend. Young Griff claims to be Aegon Targaryen, son of Rhaegar and Elia (although that's a theory for itself) so it would make sense for Ashara to help raising her best friend's child.

Other, smaller evidences are that Ashara and Lemore have both dark hair (although Septa Lemore's hair is described as brown and many people assume that Ashara had black her, her hair colour only is said to be dark). She also knew or at least danced with Jon Connington, also known as Griff.

ＬＹＡＮＮＡ ＳＴＡＲＫ

This is an, in my opinion, more unlikely possibility, but I want to touch on it nonetheless. As already said above could 'Septa Lemore' be an anagram for something. Another possible one is ‚Elopers mate' This could be a reference to Lyanna having and Rhaegar eloping together (debatabke) and her being his mate. Again, if R+L=J is true in the books than this would also explain Septa Lemore's stretchmarks, but the Question is why Lyanna would abandon her home and her Faith to help ing Young Griff.

Well, it is possible that when the Rebellion started and Lyanna gave birth to Jon, that she fled together with Jon Connington to meet with fellow Targaryen loyalists to flee from Robert’s wrath and help Rhaegar's son, but there are many reasons why this is unlikely. First, why would she leave her own son in favour of Young Griff? Next, we know from multiple sources, for example Eddard Stark, that her remains were found and that she is dead.

ＷＨＩＴＥ ＦＡＷＮ

Other people think that Septa Lemore secretly is Wenda the White Fawn. Wenda was a famous member of the Kingswood brotherhood and described as young and fair. It was common for her to brand her enemies with her trademark, a fawn. After the infamous outlaw organization was destroyed it is unknown what happened to her, but Wenda is es in Songs and Tales.

Evidences for this theory being true are, that Wenda eventually earned her title ‚The White Fawn' because of the White Robes Septas usually wear. Furthermore would she have many reasons to live exiled across the Narrow Sea as a former outlaw, but there are also a few reasons going against this.

It is possible that Septa Lemore at some time belonged to the royalty. Why this would

the theory of Ashara or Lyanna (although Lemore seems more like a southerner than a northern girl) it makes her being Wenda the White Fawn more unlikely since we can be nearly sure that Wenda isn’t or wasn’t part of the Upper class.
