Dark eyes / TRR Challenge entry

Hi, everyone. This is my entry for TRR's challenge. I am kind of catching the last train for this one but still. :joy: It is totally fanfiction therefore don't take it as some kind of a theory or anything.

The words are doubt, conspire, knowledge so here we go: :smile:

Dark Eyes:

When Randa woke up she immediately realized that she was late. The sun blazed down from a cloudless azure sky. Flea bottom was dry and brown and dusty.

She heard the noises from the next room. Talla obviously had a client. Randa rushed to the Street of Flour. She was helping in a bakery and she was receiving food for her work. Most of the people she knew considered her very lucky for that and not only for that. Hopefully she wasn’t that late. She started making the dough but the baker soon realized that she was becoming broody again. People in the bakery knew that she tend to be one of those daydreamers who are always out of this world thinking about what not.

Randa was thinking about her best friend Talla who was a whore and who allowed her to sleep in the brothel every night. Randa was grateful but she was also full of doubts. She has lived her entire life on the eastern side of Rhaenys's Hill and she had learn one thing – in this side of King’s Landing, no in general in King’s Landing – trust no one. Friends are friends but when you are hungry you are on your own. And for 20 years now she has been on her own. Everyone was calling her Randa Waters but she didn’t know whether she was a bastard or not. She didn’t know her parents. She didn’t know who gave her that name. Her childhood was a difficult one but somehow she always survived. Sometimes she couldn’t even explain how or why. The day she met Talla 8 years ago she was very hungry. She would be happy with a bowl of brown but she had no food at all. Talla offered her to become a whore. “They will accept you in my brothel. You are so beautiful with your dark eyes and dark curly hair. ”

Randa didn’t quite understand the concept of being a whore but she knew that she was hungry. She almost accepted the offer when that mysterious man appeared.

He was from Dorn. That was all she knew about him. He taught her how to fight with a spear. He told her that she must protect herself and that she shouldn’t allow any man to touch her. And she learned. And then he just disappeared. Sometimes she tought that he was her father. After all everyone used to tell her that she looked Dornish with her tanned skin. She loved the spear and she was a good fighter but there was one thing she loved more. She loved reading. Yes she could read. That was one of the things she was not supposed to be able to do and one of the things everyone envied her for. She often wondered whether she was a part of some kind of a conspiracy as she had more luck than most people in Flea Bottom but then she reminded herself that she was just no one and no one actually cared or had any reason to care about her wellbeing.

Randa learned how to read many years ago. She was still a child but a very strange looking man was always giving her food for any rumor she could tell him. She quickly learned how to hear anything important and one day she told the man that she heard something very important about that man who owned the brothel. She said that she will only tell what she knows if she was taught how to read. She didn’t expected a positive answer but she had nothing to lose. And the man actually found her someone who taught her. After that event she even managed to sneak into the Red Keep’s library a few times and read books. She believed that knowledge was the only way out of the misery she was living in. She was dreaming about finding herself a book to read when she heard terrible noises outside of the bakery.

She went outside. There were people running, shouting. Something was going on. Randa just had to know what. She asked a woman. “He is dead. The boy is dead. The king.” Can this woman be trusted? Randa heard people in the crowd saying that Tommen Baratheon was practicing sword fighting with wooden sword. There were whispers about poison on the swords. She heard the name of Loras Tyrell. Apparently he was training the king. And some of the people believed that he was the one to kill him.

Randa found herself wondering who killed the king what was going to happen now. Was Robert’s brother still alive?

People often said that he was far north after the battle. Randa would never forget the battle.

But then she shoke her head. This king or another – none of them ever cared about the people here. She turned around in order to go back to the bakery. And then someone grabbed her and covered her mouth with his hand. She had no spear, she tried to protect herself but another man appeared. She hit one of them with a stone but another appeared and they dragged her to a carriage. She heard a bell. She knew what it meant.

When King’s Landing was behind them the men gave her a horse. They told her to ride right behind them. She, of course, tried to escape but they stopped her. She kept asking them who are they, where are the leading her and why but they didn’t speak a word. All she could tell was they were not heading north but south. She thought that it was also east rather than west. Randa didn’t know how many days they were wandering. They finally reached a city or maybe a town – it was so much smaller than King’s Landing.

To her surprise the man were leading her to the stronghold and not to one of the narrow alleys. When the men finally left her alone she tried to run but she hadn’t realized that she is actually in a very large and rich decorated room and there were guards on the door behind her. She turned around and saw a man. He seemed very old. He sat in a wheeled chair. She was scared but ones again she had nothing to lose so she walked towards him and asked:

“Who are you? Where am I?”

The man smiled and replied:

"Welcome home, Your Grace."
