What is your native language? Do you speak any other languages, if so which ones and how did you learn them?

My native language is German.

I learnt English since elementary school in extra tutorings and later in school.

During my late school years, I taught myself basic Finnish but I stopped learning the language because I were limited by the language books aviable to buy in book stores. Internet wasn't common in my village back then and it was impossible for me to get ressources for intermediate skills, let alone to find someone to talk with me in Finnish and so I neither got to use it, nor to intensify it.

After school I wanted to learn Latin to qualify for a higher education but I dropped it after I got my apprenticeship. My dad taught me back then what he still knew of Latin from school.

After I finished my apprenticeship, I started to learn Brazilian Portuguese. My best friend is a brasileira and so I had at least someone to exercise with and thanks to modernisation, I had access to apps and online ressources to learn it to a level to hold a simple conversation almost fluently.

Also, I tried to learn Mandarin once but I changed to Cantonese for the love of Hong Kong. Here, language learning apps are my best friends again. I am able to recognize a handfull of characters and speak a few phrases so far.

Although I wouldn't say I can speak it on any level, I try to learn Espruar for the specific mean to use it in my crafts.

Do you practice in your native language or in another language? Explain why.

I practice in my native language. It feels artificial for me to change it if I talk to my Spirits in my native language as well. Exceptions are for me if I perform an incarnation or use a chant of a different language. For example, there are German translations of Wiccan chants but it feels very off for me to use the German translations.

Have you ever considered incorporating other languages in your practice? Why or why not?

I used to try out Finnish as I've been actively studying it and as I tried to reach out to Mielikki but I didn't do this for long - it was simply too exhaustive and complicated for me.

As I mentioned, I try to use Espruar in my craft when I offer to general Spirits like the Spirits of the land. By this I try to set an anchor to Earth for my Spirit Guides to get better access to this plane.

"Chamo vocês, espíritos do leste!

Inspiração do nascer do sol.

Bem vindo ao circulo!

Chamo vocês, espíritos do sul!

Cinza de onde nova floures.

Bem vindo ao circulo!

Chamo vocês, espíritos do oeste!

Fortalecimento da força dentro.

Bem vindo ao circulo!

Chamo vocês, espíritos do norte!

Em virtude de nossa vida física.

Bem vindo ao circulo!

Chamo vocês, espíritos do lugar!

Guardiões da rede e da vida.

Bem vindo ao circulo!

Me escute: Peço suas socorro, suas benção e força.

Me escute: Pedimo suas ajudar neste ritual.

Me escute: Me empresta seu guia.

Em nome dos deuses que tudo seja feito para o bem.

Aho!"

What language did you choose and why?

I chose Portuguese because I feel confident enough in it to not worry about making major mistakes. Also, I can barely use it except with that one friend of mine and I want to use it more in my life.

What did you choose to do with that language and why?

I wanted to try out a conjuration or calling to summon certain Spirits. Brazilian Spiritism is a big inspiration for me and I want to connect to the power of this muse by using their language for a summoning.

Are you going to incorporate other languages into your practice in the future? Why? Why not?

I will try to experiment further with it. Although I am a fan of spontaneous invocations and therefore I won't memorize this one (or others) at all, I feel like it would come in handy if I had to call upon the Spirits when being abroad in their local language and if it's just a few words or a calling. Also, if I wanted to pull off a show if I cannot be alone and yet don't want others to understand me. :p

It could be a great help for sure! Especially if you argue you practice your writing/ pronounciation while learning a language~
