#HCW3 Part 2: Making Our Symbolism

This will be for your #HCW3.  For this workshop, we are creating our own set of runes!  This adds a great personal touch and bond with our divination tools.  For this post specifically, we will be making up the meanings of our symbols.

Will you be making up your own symbolism or will you be using symbolism from another source?  How come?

What do you think will be the hardest part of this step for you?

Making Up Meanings

Step One

Settle in and get comfy!  Do you already have the meanings of your runes in your head?  Or you are getting your meanings from another source! Once you have something in mind, go ahead and start jotting down what each of your symbols mean on your paper or in your notebook.

If you don't have your meanings thought out already, that's okay!  Let's brainstorm together.  If your runes will be based off of something like a type of media (tv shows, movies, anime) or books, do the symbols you're using already hold significance in the book or media?  For example, if you base a symbol off of a creature in a book, does that creature already have its own meaning in the book?  Since my runes are based off of the language of the angels, Enochian, each symbol already has their own meanings.  I will be using these meanings for my runes.

Jotting Them Down

Step Two

Once you've tossed some ideas around, start jotting them down next to the symbols they go with.  Do the meanings match the symbols how you imagined?  Don't be afraid to go back and bounce more ideas around if they aren't what you're looking for.  Once you've finalized what you'll be using for your rune symbols and their meanings, it would be a fun time to add them and their meanings to their own little booklet to keep with the set!  This could also be within your own Book of Shadows or Grimoire!
