(I think Pearl told a cheesy joke. Garnet is laughing at the joke. Amethyst is laughing at Pearl.)
Whoa! Same but different, eh?
When I draw Steven Universe characters, I emulate the style of the show as closely as I can. But I DO have my own style of drawing. In fact, I run a couple webcomics. One of those comics has been going on since 2005.
Yes, weekly since May 2005. Almost 650 issues now. I've never missed a week or been late. You didn't know I have a massive webcomic, did you?
(Why would you? It's got nothing to do with Steven Universe.)
Anyway, each weekly issue yields ten s--around 6500 drawings I've done for this thing. In other words, I get a LOT of practice. But my style is a kind of sloppy pencil sketch, and it goes onto the Internet without being inked. The shading is done with a Q-tip.
So I decided to draw the Gems the way they would look if they were characters in my comic! They're still Gems, not humans or anything. The webcomic's narrators are mostly nonhumans, so the Gems don't have to be humans to seem at home in the comic.
The big differences include fingernails, defined lips, eye shapes, eyelashes, and a few things about the clothes.
I drew them in my style again with more serious expressions in closeups so you could see their eyes.

The comic is an ongoing modern fantasy series about interdimensional travelers and a little girl with superpowers. It's based on a bunch of novels I wrote in college that I later decided were unpublishable, so it became an independent webcomic. The fantasy webcomic is called Negative One and updates Fridays.
My other webcomic is an autobiographical joke comic about being a writer. It's called So You Write and I update that when I feel like it once a month. It's drawn in a pretty generic color chibi style and maybe one day I'll try drawing the Gems in that style too. ;)
Here's my proof I drew this. Not that anyone would think otherwise.

Oh my goodness... These are absolutely breathtaking! These might be the best pencil sketches of SU characters that I've seen in my life! Great job!
Ahh c'mon, that praise is way too much! But thank you. I prefer to keep them sorta cartoony because hyperrealism (if I could even do it) makesme uncomfortable, haha.
Holy guacaroni... those are just so amazing! Your art style is beautiful and you have such an attention to detail!!
Now if you excuse me, imma go read those webcomics... X3
Whoa. Well, thanks. I appreciate that a lot! In 2005 it was still kinda evolving but I guess it still is. ;)
You're too kind. If you do read the comics I hope you like them.

Aw thank you so much! Haha yeah I'm reading negative one right now and it's so interesting and rather mysterious in my opinion. And your art is so realistic! You really are incredibly talented :D

Wow that's so nice!! Thanks for reading it! The story is verrrry slow and character oriented so it's mostly about the rich inner lives of the characters, but the down side is there's not much plot to speak of.
That is some serious commitment! I ire that.

That's a good quality to have

It's exhausting sometimes because I love projects and am running all these blogs and comics and drawings and playing music and running YouTube channels etc.
