First off, I'd like to mentioned that I found this method from amino a while back and it interest me because this is almost as authentic as canon. As much as I like to credit the original creator, I couldn't find him/her anymore🤷🏻, so I'll just post a link where I found it🤗.
So I took this method as a guideline, then added some parts of my own design here and there :relaxed: . Not to mention doing a bit of research from canon wiki for the Homeworld gem ranking system(yes I made it according to the canon wiki) :grimacing: :grimacing:
In the end, My gemsona Melanite has her own facet which is 1A9G Cut 7XQ
-This will be explained later on if you decide to read further-
:sparkles: :sparkles: Let's begin :sparkles: :sparkles:
-FACET-
The first number in a gem's facet indicates which diamond a gem belongs to and serving. (this is also determined by the color of your gemsona's)
-Their color also determine which diamond they belong to-
1= White diamond
2= Yellow diamond
3= Blue diamond
4= Pink diamond
The second letter in the facet indicate from which kindergarten a gem emerged from. this also determine which diamond they serve from the kindergarten that they own.
if your gemsona doesn't have a clear cut and is a rounded gem then skip this process.
-White diamond-
Alpha: A
Delta: D
Gamma: G
Epsilon: B
Zeta: Z
Eta: E
Theta: H
-Yellow diamond-
Iota: I
Kappa: K
Lambda: L
Mu: M
Nu: N
Xi: X
Omicron: F
-Blue diamond-
Rho: R
Upsilon: U
Sigma: S
Chi: C
Omega: O
Tau: T
Pi: P
The third number in the facet indicate the rank of a gem within the homeworld's caste system. The ones I stated here are based from canon, should give you an idea of how they are ranked within the system.
0(10)= diamond (Highest rank)
9= Sapphire, morganite, Emerald, Spinnel etc (Aristocratic gems or a member of a diamond's court)
8= Hessonite, Garnet, Jade etc(Commanders of army, High overseer)
7= Agate, Aquamarine, Demontoid, Pyrope (Officers, overseer, istration)
6= Quartz, Jasper, Amethyst, Citrine, Topaz, Carnelian (Elite soldiers, palace guards)
5= Peridot, Zircon, Lapis lazuli, Bismuth, Obsidian, Larimar, Bixbite (Technician, terraformer, builder, sculptor)
4= Rutile, Nephrite etc (Pilots)
3= ???
2= Ruby etc(Footsoldier, escort)
1= Pearl, pebbles(Lowest rank. Servant)
The fourth letter is a random selection. You can pick any letter you want and its finished. The facet should appear in this particular order
(Diamond)
(Kindergarten)
(Rank)
(Letter)
I.e: 1A9G
For gems who doesn't have a clear cut, the order to follow is like this.
(Diamond)
(Random number)
(Rank)
i.e: 413
-Earth facet-
Peridot actually explained this in the show, Earth gem only has one number facet.
Beta kindergarten: 5
Prime kindergarten: 9
-Cut-
A gem's cut is determine by the hardness of their gemstone in Mohs scale. (If you don't know what your gemsona's cut is, you can check in wiki)
The second and third letters are random selection. it is to simulate which series of 'gemstone' they are when they emerged from their kindergarten. So far majority of the gems in canon have X as the second letter but you can pick your own.
The order of the cut would be like this
(Hardness)
(2nd letter)
(3rd letter)
I.e: 7XQ
So in short my gemsona's facet 1A9G Cut 7XQ basically means thats she serve White diamond, emerged from the Alpha kindergarten (Oldest in my headcanon), ranked just below a diamond(Due to her being a personal bodyguard and a member of a court).
The 7XQ is basically the hardness of a melanite gemstone. ranging between 7-8 on the Mohs scale.
For those of you who's gemsona has rounded gemstone instead of a clear cut gem.
you can use Cabochon instead of cut. I don't actually know how to identify their cabochon so I just use the number between (01-99) since in canon there hasn't been a number higher than 2-digits.🤔
