So, as we all know, Smash for Switch was only recently announced in the most surprising manner possible. Stuck at the very end of the March 8th Nintendo Direct. Now I’m gonna it, I 100% though Smash was an E3 title and they were gonna announce it then but BOY WAS I WRONG. And y’all ready knew that I had to milk this cow in the most unoriginal way possible so here we go…

OLM’s Official Predictions and Hopes

Alright, so I’m gonna split this up into three parts…

Predictions

Hopes

Port or a New Game

So I’m gonna start by stating what I think is gonna happen and will most likely happen. Then followed by what I hope will happen. And finish off the blog with whether or not I believe this will be a brand new game or a port of Smash 4 Wii U. Let’s get started!

Predictions

Alright, so let’s get what we know out of the way first, Inklings in Smash. Already hype.

And that’s it. All we know so far is that it will have the Inklings in it which is a no brainer.

New Characters / Stages

Of course they’re gonna have new characters. That’s the one thing everybody goes head over heels for in a new Smash game. I’m not gonna go over move sets or anything just the characters.

Characters from Octopath

New Pokemon

New Third Parties (Crash?)

Tournament Mode

Time to bring back tournament mode Nintendo. In both online and local mode. These two will definitely be back in Smash for Switch. Perhaps even a brand new competitive mode with rankings and stuff. I wrote an entire blog about this topic so be sure to check it out here.

Balance Changes

Bayonetta mains prepare, for that nerf hammer is gonna come down very hard on you guys. Fans have been complaining for a long time about her and I do believe that she will be nerfed in Smash Switch.

Besides that, stuff for the old cast as well. And Puff will finally be buffed.

Hopes

Alright time to get my hopes down. These are the things that are not as likely but still realizable.

Smash Run

Smash Run was a game mode on the 3DS and was actually really good. It would work fairly similarly to the regular version but you know, for the Switch. With the updated graphics this game mode would look amazing.

New Adventure Mode

We need a new adventure mode back. Something like Subspace Emissary but I find this to be unlikely. Deg new cutscenes and especially new levels would be extremely time consuming and I’ll delve into this further in a minute.

Port or a New Game?

Time for the tricky part… Will this be a port, or a new game? This is the thing that everybody wants to know about. So here is what I believe and the defense for both sides.

A Port

The main defense I have for the port side is the launch date.

Nintendo plans to release Smash for Switch this year. Now I’m no game designer, but I think it would take more than a year to develop a brand new smash game.

The gap between Brawl and Smash 4 was a total of 6 years. And I’m willing to bet that most of that time was spent planning the new game.

A New Game

The defense for this side is why would they hype up the trailer so much? Why would Nintendo put this much trailer into making us think “ugh, more Splatoon stuff?” Then pull a fat yeet on us and hype us up with another logo. They also smacked this trailer right at the end which is good for us Smash fans. They still know we’re here and alive.

My Prediction

I believe that it will be a new Smash game. Thanks to the hundreds of people telling me, the credits in the teaser lead us to believe that it will be a new game. Thanks to the fact that Bandai Namco is not credited and 2018 is there instead of 2014-2018. Also they out way too much hype into this for it to be a port.

Wrap-Up

Time to wrap up this mini blog. I spent around an hour and a half to get this thing out. I spent another hour watching reaction trailers because Etika is priceless. Overall, we can all agree that this trailer was simple fantastic and we are all hyped to play our new mains the Inklings.
