This is the second of two parts. Though it doesn’t matter what order you read them in since they will both cover separate topics.

Welcome back everybody! After I released the first part a few days ago I decided to create a followup blog to discuss another topic of interest. What would the modern day competitive scene look like? Know what, let’s go way back, what would it look like throughout history? Like since Brawl, let’s say that they decide to make it legal even way back then. What comes after that? Let’s find out.

I’ll also be interviewing a couple of my fellow bloggers to see how the meta around their character will change.

Brawl’s Release

Let’s begin our story when it began, with the Smash Ball being introduced back in Brawl in 2008. With the sudden downfall of Melee’s competitive scene because more and more players are transitioning to Brawl. Iconic Melee legends such as Mew2King are now attached to the game and new up and comers such as Nairo are dominating the tournament scene. At first, items are illegal like normal. But since in fighting games super moves are more than common, a small local scene had the idea to legalize the Smash Ball for one tournament.

Nobody knew what more to expect and as usual, most people picked Meta Knight since he was and still is the objectively best character in the game. Use of the Smash Ball was sloppy and more than often people missed and sometimes even forgot they had it. As per usual, the top PR’d player made it to Grand Finals. But he met with an un PR’d player, a nobody, some common Jim. The Jim ended up winning because he knew how to use the Smash Ball effectively.

This tournament setup continued at this specific local. Eventually more and more people began to show up. Until other tourneys started making it legal. This was continued up until a worldwide legalization of the Smash Ball was announced.

Modern Day Smash 4

A few years down the line after Smash 4’s release, along with all of the DLC characters, the meta already looks very different from out it looks today. There are character guides about certain character’s smash ball abilities, how to avoid them, how to use them effectively, and even true setup tutorials. And players even who are famous today still gain the same amount of recognition. Players like ZeRo, MkLeo, Salem, all of them have mastered their abilities with the Smash Ball. Characters like Little Mac or Ganondorf became irrelevant because of their plain inability to actually get the Smash Ball.

And of course, the debate whether or not to ban Bayonetta is still very much relevant because of her amazing Final Smash.

Opinions of Others

Alright, let’s get to the interviews. I interviewed three people for this blog. Those were Jose, Casson, and NBound. All three of which main different characters. I asked them the following questions…

Who do you think would be the best player in the world if the Smash Ball were legalized?

How would the meta around your main change? In of tier placement and style in gameplay.

In of the first question, I believe that I agree with Jose that MkLeo would be the best in the world. He would master the use of micro-spacing in order to get the smash ball and would also use cheeky up air setups. Though Salem and Nairo are also great candidates.

Conclusion
