With your hamster running on these wheels it can cause serious foot, leg, and/or, toe injuries. Also these wheels can cause bumble foot since hamsters tend to run on their wheels for a long period of time.

Wheels to look for

-Solid Wheels

Solid wheels are more suitable for your hamster. They have a smooth-like texture to them which would be more comfortable for their feet, and they are a lot safer. Some come with grip inside which is perfectly fine. It will just give your hamster an easier time to spin the wheel. Although there are still factors to come when choosing wheels. Such as size.

What size should I get?

If you have a dwarf hamster you should choose between 6-8 inches. Any size below 6” would most likely be too small.

If you have a Syrian hamster you want at least an 8” wheel. Syrians are larger, and will need more space on the wheel to run.

How do I know if my wheels too small?

If your hamsters back is curving as they are trying to run your wheel is too small. Your hamsters back should be straight. For a too small of wheel can cause spine injuries, so you would want to adjust to a larger wheel as soon as possible.
