From TBB- "Turkeys are predatory birds with six different varieties all native to North America. The turkeys beak is specially designed to pick at small insects and even kill larger prey like mice and snakes. The beak is made up of hardened skin called Keratin. Turkeys have small holes in their skull, located just behind the eyes, that is their ear holes. Turkeys have amazing hearing and pinpoint sounds from as far as a mile away!"

From TBB- "The wild turkey was nearly hunted to extinction in the early 1900s with numbers dropping to around 30,000 birds. Restoration programs have brought that number back up to 7 million today. The restoration programs, along with the domestication of turkeys, have saved the species from overhunting and extinction."

From TBB- "The domesticated turkey originated from the native North American species the Eastern Turkey Meleagris gallopavo. The turkey is classified as an omnivore due to the occasional invertebrate, but primarily feeds on seeds and grains. The turkey is a popular game bird which had led to an increase in their wild population and rage due to Management programs. Today domestic turkeys are farmed worldwide for human consumption."
