Hello everyone!! Welcome to January's Bone Box unboxing!! OMG I WAS SO HAPPY!!!
For those who do not know what the Bone Box is... It is an educational zooarcheology box perfect for anyone in the Vulture Culture!
One of my favorite subscription boxes, each month you can expect bones from some species, or multiple species, of animals along with information about that animal.
Today's amazing skull specimen..... THE STRAW COLORED FRUIT BAT!!!! I AM SO HAPPY I LOVE BATS!!!!

Information from The Bone Box:
"Mammalia - Chiroptera - Pteropidiae - Eidolon helvum
Diet: Herbivore; Range: Africa"
From TBB: "The order to which all bats belong to is called Chiroptera, which originates from the Greek words meaning 'hand' and 'wing'. When compared to the boney structure of the human hand, it follows the same pattern when the hand is elongated."
From TBB: "This species possesses long and tapered wings which allows them to expend less energy when traveling long distances. They have even been observed flying offshore. The straw colored fruit bat uses these adaptations to migrate the furthest recorded distance of any African mammal."
From TBB: "Like other fruit bats, the straw colored fuit bat may extract the nectar of flowers or the juice of fruits by crushing it between a hard upper palate and teeth to push out the liquid. Remaining dry fruit material is discarded.
The bats that you are receiving in your Bone Box are ethically sourced food by-product collected over time from a village in Africa."
