Hi guys! Here's my entry for the weekend challenge! This was a lot of fun. Most of the songs I listen to relate to Sherlock in some way, so it was nice to condense a few favourites into one post. #AStudyInPlaylists (I know I totally overdid it here, but there are just so many!) The top five are my favourites, but there's plenty more to listen to in the bonus section~!
#1: Fire Escape by Half Moon Run
I chose this song because it really reminds me of Jim Moriarty and Sebastian Moran. It's a really short song, but it really captures the more bittersweet side of their relationship. I think these particular the lyrics suit them a lot:
"Hey, murderer / Every breath you steal is a breath that I breathe for you."
#2: Eric's Song by Vienna Teng
This entire song is honestly just gorgeous so please, please at least read the lyrics, because I adore it. It's so sweet. I chose it because it makes me think of John and Sherlock. The song is quite romantic, so it definitely makes me think of Johnlock, but either way it's beautiful and even if you don't ship it, I feel like you could appreciate this. In my Sherlockian interpretation if it, it follows the progression of their relationship, told from John's POV, from Sherlock's return (as it features a simile about a phoenix rising from the ashes - imagery associated with death and rebirth). Here is a snippet of it:
"And with each ing day / The stories we say / Draw us tighter into our addiction / Confirm our conviction / That some kind of miracle / ed on our heads"
#3: Counterfeit Florida Plates by The Mountain Goats
This one is a bit of an odd one compared to the other songs. It makes me think of the time Sherlock spent in Florida (where he met Mrs Hudson and had her husband sentenced to death). Given his mental health at the time, and the reputation of the state having a lot of drug activity, I imagine he spent a lot of his time there high, and as a result lived on the streets there for a brief time. This song kind of makes me visualise that, particularly this bit, because it's just so Sherlock:
" Scribble ciphers on the library bathroom wall. / Map a path from here to home. / Can't quite catch em all. / Calculate magnetic north, / And turn the other way. / Wait for the coming disaster, / I could do this all day."
#4: Like Real People Do by Hozier
Okayyy, I only sort of ship Sheriarty, but this song makes me think of Jim and Sherlock. I love the image of them burying some secrets and digging each other up in the process. Plus the mixture of petnames like 'honey' and 'dear' juxtaposed with imagery of secrets and graves is very Moriarty. Example:
"I knew that look dear / Eyes always seeking / Was there in someone / That dug long ago / So I will not ask you / Why you were creeping / In some sad way I already know"
#5: The Scientist by Coldplay
Aaa gosh, this one is such a fandom classic. Many tears were shed over this song when I was in the fandom back in 2012. Sherlock coming back after the Reichenbach Fall. See for yourself:
"Questions of science / Science and progress / Do not speak as loud as my heart / Tell me you love me / Come back and haunt me / Oh, and I rush to the start"

The bonus playlist totally fits in with my head cannon where teen Sherlock had a Robert Smith mop and listened to the Smith's.
Teen Sherlock totally listened to The Smiths~ I'm like 80% sure of it
