It is agreed by most people that it is generally good to keep some semblance of decorum and respect when engaging with others (1). Often times, however, progressives will overcompensate and throw themselves into culture war identity politics vis à vis political correctness. This is a term which can be difficult to define, so the working definition will be as follows: an overbearing, frequently patronizing, attitude toward social issues leading to excessive self-policing of language.
True also is the need to understand the intersections between the struggles of the oppressed peoples which are rooted in gender, color, religion, and so on. However, in a vast majority of cases these people are workers whose struggle is related to the concentration of capital for a select few, a class which is shrinking as it becomes wealthier, and in decoupling these issues one creates a distraction rather than a focal point.
This should not be taken in it own right to distract from intersectional issues, but feeding excessively into identity politics does lead into a decoupling of intersectionality from class, legitimizing the racist, queerphobic culture wars promulgated by the professional idiots at the Daily Wire. To be serious about liberation, one need not be a baizuo.
