Chasing Silent Bluebirds

no matter how much light

rips through the cracks in my fingertips,

facing fires of lost and damaged voices -

my heart keeps pounding.

through the eery quiet in the aftermath of a song,

chasing silent bluebirds on the wind,

filling the empty space with the unceasing thud of a heartbeat.

treading blood spattered grounds,

I'm dissolving.

stained with scarlet paint,

I'm crumbling.

although my heart keeps beating,

I'm shattering.

golden paint splattered,

the ground soaked -

the aftermath of the battle causing

droplets of blood to turn cold,

running frozen rivers of deep crimson,

cutting trenches through cavernous depths,

never once hesitating to capture a sigh.

singing blades

a heart of steel

of ice ridden plains:

driving your nails into frozen earth.

stripped to the bone I'm running,

chased by the eternal beat of my heart,

stumbling towards the tattered remains -

a no longer recognisable soul.

Prompt:

"my heart can't seem to break, but my soul would shatter at each breath I take"
