Alone in the snow

It was cold outside

It snowed like it would never stop

The streets and houses covered in white

At the dawn of a beautiful sunrise

People had holed up in their homes

Under a blanket with hot chocolate

Watching tv by the fire

Cozy and warm inside

But one guy did not

He went outside instead

All alone out in the night

All the way 'till morning light

He'd seen the snow and gone outside

Despite his family's judging eyes

Because who would rather freeze

Than stay comfortably inside?

And true, it had been cold

Sitting all alone he was lonely

But for the beauty of the winter's night

He was happy even despite

The icy land she conquered

The guy struggled all the way

The snow reached to his knees

So he sunk deep with every step

And rested at the bus stop down the street

Around sunrise his sister came

To get him out of the frozen rain

She asked him why he'd gone into the snow

And didn't just look at it through the window

The guy looked up and took her hand

"To appreciate the beauty of a snowflake

It is necessary to stand out in the cold."

And he smiled
