My Creature

The Rain Bird!

The Rain Bird, or Cholena Huyana, was the Native American legend that told of a bird who brought rain. A Rain Bird design is used in some Native American pottery. The name was appropriated by the Rain Bird Corporation to name their irrigation sprinkler. The Rain Bird was known by coastal Native Americans as the bringer of life. The reason behind it was that Rain (The bringer of life) brought life to the coastal Natives by watering their plants and hence, giving food & water to the animals they hunted.

Our Backstory

One day while walking home from the bus stop, it started to rain very hard. "Oh great," I thought. "I'm going to get soaked!" I trudged on, through the cold wetness of the rain. Thankfully my house isn't very far from my stop, and I was more than halfway there when the rain started up.

I finally reached the shelter of my home. Peeling off my wet jacket and socks, I thought about the weather. It was very sunny up until now, so those clouds must have been very full. I listened to the pitter-pattering of the rain on the roof, then went upstairs to go on Pets Amino.

Just then, I saw a bolt of lightning, and jumped. Ah! Then another one, followed by thunder. This time it wasn't startling, it was just eerie. I don't like lightning. Just as I turned my head away from the window, though, I see another bolt inside my room! I jumped back, on the verge of running to get a bucket of water to put out the anticipated fire.

But there was no fire. The rain started to slow down outside, and the smoke started to clear. I saw a little "Something" lying there. But what? Finally I could fully see. It was a big white bird, with blue feathers on the edges of the wings. It had orange legs and an auburn beak.

"Woah!" I gingerly scooped up the bird, careful not to hurt it. Though, it looked as if it was already hurt- the wing was broken! I rushed to put it in a sling, when right when the bird was in comfort, it started to make it rain from my ceiling. I wasn't happy, but I needed to get the Rain Bird better. I decided I would keep the bird, until it's wing healed. Then I would release it back into the world. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of a crazy adventure for me!

Our Routine

6:30 I wake up and feed Roland (the bird).

7:00 I leave for school, while Roland gets some more rest and heals his wing.

3:10 I come back home and feed Roland again, then give him some loves.

3:30 I try to get him to move his wing, making it more mobile.

4:00 I start on my homework and do Pets Amino and such, while Roland stays downstairs and plays with a mouse toy (that's made for a cat).

5:00 I do more exersize with him. Then I clean out his poop.

6:00 we both eat Dinner.

7:00-8:00 Roland hangs out with my family and me.

8:30 Roland goes to sleep.

9:00 I go to bed, and read.

Why I Chose A Rain Bird

Didn't you read my backstory? I didn't chose. He got here via lightning.

Just Kidding! I chose the rain bird for multiple reasons. I love rain, I think the sound it makes is soothing, it looks pleasing in art, and it is functional too. It waters our plants, washes away bird poop, and just helps society exist.

I also like birds a lot. I want to own one, in the future! I think they are pretty, and funny, and good companions as pets.
