Hey Guys!
Welcome Back! It's Clover, back with another blog. Today I will be telling you all about 5 cool, exotic pets that you can legally own- not that I recommend owning them. But anyway, let's get into the blog!
Disclaimer
Just because you CAN own these pets, I definitely don't recommend it. They require a lot more work than your typical goldfish, and are often not cared for correctly and not released back into the wild. If you do end up getting one of these pets, or any other exotic pet, please do TONS of research, and only get it if you are physically and economically ready for it.

1- Fennec Fox
The first Animal I have for you is the Fennec Fox. This adorably tiny little creature has huge bat-like ears, and a very cute face.
This Fox is native to the Sahara of North Africa, the Sinai Peninsula, South West Israel, and the Arabian Desert.
The large ears of this animal serve two purposes. One is to hear better. Being a predator, they need excellent hearing skills. They also serve to dissipate heat. This is helpful, especially since the Fennec Fox lives in warm climates.
In captivity, the Fennec Fox has a lifespan of up to 14 years. In the wild, the main predators are the African varieties of the Eagle Owl, Jackals, and other big mammals.
As of 2014, most states have banned owning these animals as pets. But states including Florida, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Texas require a permit to own a Fennec Fox. New York says that these animals can be kept as "companion animals."

2- Capybara
The Capybara is only legal in some states. In Texas and Pennsylvania, you are allowed to keep them, but in many other places, you would need to consult your local legislation to see if you need any special permit.
They are semi-aquatic creatures. The Capybara needs plenty of water all times, and some owners even choose to create special pools for them. Capybaras also need plenty of space to roam around. It is not a wise idea to keep them indoors, as they will chew on everything they find.
They are more than twice the size of a jackrabbit, they are the biggest rodents. Capybaras live in groups and are very social animals. Adopting a single capybara is not recommende, because you would need to adopt at least two capybaras, but preferably more.

3- Hyacinth Macaw
The Hyacinth Macaw has cobalt-blue on the majority of the feathers. They are the largest of the macaw species! cause anyone to pause and take notice. The bright yellow around the eyes and at the base and the corners of the beak makes them appear to be smiling.
Also called the "Great Dane" of companion birds, the full grown male will be over 40 inches in length! They're originally from Brazil, Blolivia, and Paraguay.
Despite its size, penchant for destruction, loudness and expense, this blue macaw is the penultimate companion bird for the person who has the time, patience and wallet to properly keep this beautiful beast.

4- Freshwater Stingray
Stingrays are relatives of sharks. But lots of people are surprised to learn that some stingrays live in freshwater! Freshwater stingrays are very intelligent and quite interactive with humans. They can even be taught to hand feed.
These pets, like all pets, aren't for everyone. They need large aquariums, pristine water conditions, and specialized diets. In the wild, freshwater stingrays are found in rivers in Southeast Asia, Australia, Africa and South America. They should live in an environment very similar to their natural one.
In the past, most rays offered for sale were captured in the wild, which means they were often stressed and frequently carried parasites and other diseases. Many rays sold today are captive bred and are a better choice for aquarists.

5- Ball Python
Snakes that are caught from the wild will be very stressed from the capture and transport. Though the downside to captive bred snakes is that they these to be way more expensive, though they're readily available.
Ball Pythons aren't very active, compared to some other snakes. A smaller cage is okay, because of this, but be sure to use a 10+ gallon tank for young snakes and a 30+ gallon tank for older snakes. They are however exceptional escape artists, so a securely fitted top is absolutely necessary.
Ball pythons can be fed only mice, or small to medium sized rats (as appropriate for the size of the snake). They only need to be fed every week or two (I was shocked when I learned this!). Young snakes should be fed fuzzy mice every 5 to 7 days, while older snakes should be fed increasingly larger prey and can go a little longer, up to two weeks. Use pre-killed prey since live mice can injure a snake. Dangling the prey in front of the snake with forceps usually gets the snake interested in it.

In Spanish Hyacinth Macaw is Guacamayo (macaw) Jacinto (Hyacinth)
That's so cool?
That's so cool!
Just so you know, a ball python should be kept in a minimum 75gal tank as an adult. A 30gal simply does not give them enough room to stretch out and explore. They're more active than people think and will absolutely explore and climb at night.
Also, some bp just will not take f/t or prekilled so live may be necessary, but if offered responsibly it is perfectly safe. You just need to keep an eye out and remove the prey item straight away if the snake is not hungry.
Ok I know you can own all of these but that doesn't mean you should. A lot of people don't provide proper care or release these animals.
That's a good point. I am merely making this blog to inform people of 5 cool animals you CAN own, but it is a great point (that I will add in) that these aren't beginner pets, and and very hard to take care for. Thanks for pointing that out!
I’d rather use a forty gallon for a ball
Fifty five preferably
I would just go for a 4x2x2 terrium. That seems like it would make the most sense. Plenty of space and has an open front
Reply to: reptiles101
I prefer open front doors with saneks snakes
Reply to: Doctor Scales
I prefer open front stuff with lizards too. I kinda don't like sliding door things though. I think I prefer doors that swing out
Exotics are my favorite
I only own 7 of themmmmmm :joy:
