Hidden pain behind laughter....

In a world where laughter is often praised as medicine, we sometimes forget that even medicine, when misused, can harm. Joking is a beautiful way to bond, to ease tension and to share joy—but like all things, it needs balance. Especially when the joke comes at someone else’s expense.

Some people laugh easily, while others hold back tears behind quiet smiles. Not everyone speaks up when they’re hurt. Especially sensitive souls—they may not confront, argue or even frown. Instead they go silent. They carry your words like invisible bruises. And sometimes they cry where no one sees.

But Allah sees.

He sees the one who laughed loudly... and the one who cried silently. He hears the jokes but He also hears the hearts they break.

“The wound of a sword may heal, but the wound of the tongue does not.”

We call ourselves Muslims. We wear the name with pride. But how many of us live the name? Islam teaches "adab (آداب)" —manners, comion, mercy and empathy. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), the best of creation, never mocked or humiliated anyone. He joked—but never at the cost of someone’s dignity.

So how have we become so casual with our words?

We laugh over someone’s looks, stutter, accent, weight or mistakes—thinking it’s harmless. “Just joking,” we say.

But behind those jokes are people whose hearts sink.

Some go home and cry.

Some lose confidence.

Some even lose their will to speak again.

And every tear they shed in silence... is seen by Allah.

“Beware of mockery, for it plants the seed of hatred, and what grows from it can be deadly.”

The art of being a real Muslim isn't just in salah, hijab, or beard. It’s in how we treat people. Especially when we have the power to hurt but choose kindness instead. It’s easy to joke. It’s harder to care. It’s easy to say, “they’re too sensitive.” It’s harder to ask, “Did I hurt them?”

Sometimes, people don’t cry because they’re weak. They cry because they have pure hearts. And Allah honors those hearts. He counts every tear.

So — not every laugh is a win. Not every joke is funny in the eyes of Allah.

Be gentle. Don't trade someone’s pain for a moment of entertainment.

Because the people we hurt today… might be the ones Allah loves the most.
