I looked through all the submissions for this challenge, and I love some of the more frequent channels mentioned, but I noticed a disappointing lack of two demographics: Canadians and scientists. So I'm gonna cross both off in one submission with ASAPScience, a channel produced by two gay scientists from Toronto, Ontario, Canada!
The channel is run by two guys, Mitchell 'Mitch' Moffit and Gregory 'Greg' Brown. They met in like 2005 or 2006 or 2007 at the University of Guelph if I correctly, and they were both studying science (forget what field specifically though). The two of them started dating I believe in 2007, as they mentioned celebrating their tenth anniversary last year.
The main idea for the ASAPScience channel was to teach people science 'as soon as possible', hence the name of the channel. They just want to teach people interesting things about science in an enjoyable fashion that they'll , as opposed to boring lessons.
Arguably ASAPScience's most well-known video is one some of you may even have seen without knowing the origin: The Periodic Table of Elements song! Y'know, that annoyingly catchy one your grade-nine science teacher played during your chem unit so you had an idea of what element was where and all that. I forgot to add that to my attached screenshots, but it's easy to find. The original, and the newly updated one with the more recently added elements.
Speaking of those video screenshots, I organized them by the channel they were posted on: the main ASAPScience, or their side channel Greg and Mitch (formerly ASAPThought). Technically with the exception of the first one for the main channel, each video is directly related to the LGBT/queer community in some way. That first one is just a cheesy science love song.
The videos in order, with brief explanations:
ASAPScience
Science Love Song- Just two gays, singin about love and science
Does Everybody Have a Gay Gene?- A look at the idea of a 'gay gene' in one's DNA, mostly in the context of dominant vs. recessive genes.
Greg and Mitch
Coming Out Twice- Talks about how you don't really come out once; it's an ongoing thing that never really stops.
Learning About Gay Pride- It's a Toronto Pride vlog, really. It's great.
What's the Hardest Part About Being Gay- Talks about the struggles they face personally as gay men.
I'm Not Homophobic, but...- Calling out people who hide behind said phrase to cushion their homophobic views.
Can You Get Rid of Homosexuality?- Posted as a follow-up to the main channel's gay gene video, it's exactly what you'd expect.
There's one other video I didn't screenshot but is still important on the side channel. It's about the unspoken homophobia in sports, professional ot otherwise.
