Hello! :zap: é丅O𝕀ㄥe :zap: here, with the #TakeoverChall. This is my first blog on LGBT+ Amino, and I’m glad for this being the first one. I haven’t been very active due to being very busy, but it’s nice to have some time to sit down now and participate in a community challenge. Now, onto different matters. The topic of my blog [as you can read in the title] is Modern Broadway. I chose this topic because of the fact that my dream is to be on broadway, and I hold theatre very close to my heart. I’ve chosen 8 (yes 8, I’m sorry I couldn’t quite limit it to 7 I do hope that’s acceptable) shows. One never technically hit broadway, one was set to premiere the day theaters closed due to COVID-19, and one has stopped being in theaters. Even so, I bring them up here for their insane popularity and large fan-bases.

“Falsettos is a musical with a book by William Finn and James Lapine, and music and lyrics by Finn. The musical consists of March of the Falsettos (1981) and Falsettoland (1990), the last two installments in a trio of one-act musicals that premiered off-Broadway...” - Wikipedia (Falsettos Wikipedia). Falsettos, starring Christian Borle, Andrew Rannells, Brandon Urowitz, Stephanie J. Block, Anthony Rosenthal, Tracie Thoms, and Betsy Wolfe, is a two-act musical with only songs, originally on broadway on April 29th, 1992 and closed June 27th, 1993. The revival aired on broadway September 29th, 2016 and closed January 8th, 2017. The story follows homosexual Marvin in 1979 during the first act, who has divorced his wife to run off with Whizzer. Tension rises to a sad scene, splitting Marvin from Whizzer and his family, as well as his therapist. In act two, the family gets together to plan Jason’s bar mitzvah, when Whizzer pops up again. We will watch as these homosexuals, short insomniacs, spiky families, and lesbians from next door go through odd scenarios.

Mean Girls: The Musical is based off the ever-so popular teen movie Mean Girls. Mean Girls: The Musical started a Broadway preview March 12th, 2018 and officially opened on Broadway April 8th, 2018. The musical pretty closely follows the movie, with Cady Herring attending a public high school, the first time she’s ever been to public school. She’s introduced to The Plastics, and they cause her to begin acting differently than she normally would. She gets a crush, and it worsens her behaviour. How will she break free to be usual self?

Beetlejuice: The Musical is based off the popular movie “Beetlejuice” of 1988. It premiered October 14th, 2018 at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. and officially went on broadway April 25th, 2019. The musical, like the movie, follows young Lydia Deetz, who has recently lost her mother and searches out to get her dad to mourn her, instead of just ing by in life. Beetlejuice tries convincing her to say his name 3 times, and get him to possess her dad. Instead, Lydia tries to use the ghost couple haunting her home to scare him instead. Wacky hijinks ensue.

Six began its previews February 13th, 2020 at the Brooks Atkins Theatre and planned to broadway March 12th, 2020 but due to COVID-19 shutting down all theatres, Six was unable to premiere. Even so, Six plans on premiering after the pandemic when theatres open again. Six is a musical explaining the lives of Henry VIII’s famous/infamous six wives, Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr. However, Six intends to show the story from the perspective of the wives, instead of what we know now.

And That was my Takeover Challenge entry, I must say each of these musicals I hold close and it was so fun to talk about them, and to learn more about how they were made and when. But that isn’t the point, the point here is to show and educate other people about the broadway world and shows on and off-broadway. To those even at all interested, I would highly recommend giving one or even all of these musicals a listen when you have the chance as they are all uniquely amazing.

I am aware, although I was unable to edit in time due to events. I did not bring up Be More Chill when I could have, partially for it being very controversial in the broadway community. Heathers was never officially there, but it has such a massive fan base I brought it up (plus it helped get me into theatre anyways). I figured eight was already too many, so putting nine would be pushing it. I am sorry for the people who would have liked to see BMC here though, I acknowledge the show and the hard work that went into it here. I am very sorry, although I thank you for your comment! :)
